Concerned groups in Bahrain aim to develop a strategy to stop any future development of the country's second richest coral reef, according to Gulf Daily News. A workshop is being organised by the Environmental Friends Society to come up with recommendations for the preservation of Fasht Al Adham coral reef, which is an important fishing zone.

The Qatar Red Crescent and Qatar Charity have sent fresh loads of relief materials to displaced persons in Lebanon and Syria. Two truck loads of aid, including ten tonnes of food stuffs, was collected by QRC and sent on Thursday.
The Dubai Department of Civil Aviation has launched a campaign entitled Together with Lebanon. The eight day campaign aims to raise money from passengers passing through the Dubai International Airport as well as from airport staff for the war-torn country of Lebanon. As part of the campaign, cash boxes will be installed at various locations across the DIA and offices of the DCA; Dubai Duty Free has already donated Dhs250,000.

Environmentalists based in the UAE are preparing to travel to Lebanon in order to help with clearing up a 10,000 tonne oil spill in the Mediterranean Sea, caused by Israeli bombing of the Jiyeh power station, reported Gulf News. The spill could not be cleaned up, or contained, previously due to the repeated bombing raids by Israel's aircraft. The Emirates Diving Association will go to Lebanon as soon as possible.
A Dubai resident suffering from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a condition in which the lungs' air sacs are replaced by fibrotic tissue, is facing a problem getting to China for a vital transplant, reported Gulf News. The patient needs to take several cylinders of oxygen on board the aircraft but so far airlines have stated that there are restrictions on how many can be transported. Qatar Airways is currently considering the request.

The UAE is to play a role in rebuilding the war ravaged infrastructure of Lebanon, according to the local WAM news agency. Schools and hospitals in various locations in southern Lebanon will be rebuilt. Meanwhile, an aircraft carrying 15 tonnes of aid from the UAE arrived in Beirut yesterday.

Abu Dhabi's new diabetes centre was officially opened on Monday, although it has been taking patients for two weeks. The Imperial College London Diabetes Centre is a joint venture between Imperial College London and Mubadala Development Company. The centre will also have a research centre, a training and education department and public health programmes.

The Saudi Field Hospital in Beirut has now treated more than 3,000 Lebanese men, women and children wounded by Israel's sustained military attack on the country, reported Arab News. The hospital, which is supervised by the Saudi Red Crescent Society, can undertake both major and minor operations and includes laboratories and ambulances.
