Saudi army hospitals e-system goes live
- The electronic health system for Saudi Arabia's Armed Forces hospitals has gone live, making it the largest such initiative in the country. The project involved indexing hundreds of thousands of paper and digital medical files of Armed Forces personnel, designing a registration program especially for the Ministry of Defense and linking it to the medical systems of Nexus, which is used in a number of other hospitals in Saudi Arabia.

UAE cancer cases increase
- Incidence of cancer in the UAE is expected to rise among children and the elderly, a leading oncologist in Dubai has said. Oncologists are already reporting an increase of cancer cases in children and of prostate cancer in men. According to Dr Fareed Khalifa, head of the oncology department at Dubai Hospital, more children were already coming in for diagnosis and treatment.

Probe into Kuwait Health Ministry staff pay lapse
- Over 700 employees of Kuwait's Ministry of Health have complained that their salaries have not yet been paid, the Kuwait Times has reported. The Ministry has launched an investigation into the missed payment and announced that unpaid staff can instead collect cheques.

UAE ID card replaces health card
- The UAE Ministry of Health has announced that individuals who have obtained the new identity card can use it to obtain services at public hospitals. No other documentation need be provided if the individual has the ID card.

Bangladesh firm to export drugs to GCC
- Beximco Pharmaceuticals, a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer in Bangladesh, will soon become the country's first company to export to the GCC. The company, the country's largest pharmaceutical exporter, has received approval from the health ministries of the GCC. The combined pharmaceutical market of the GCC is valued at more than $4bn. Currently the market is mainly shared by multinational companies in Europe and the US.

Emirates funds floating hospital in Dhaka
- The Emirates Friendship Hospital Ship, a charity venture funded by the Emirates Airline Foundation has been officially inaugurated in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The ship will ply approximately 250 kilometres along the River Bhramaputra north of the country and serve over three million people living on more than 400 small islands and on the river banks. The mobile hospital ship is equipped with chambers for doctors, primary health care facilities, two operating theatres, two eight-bed wards, paediatric and gyaencology units, a dental room, a pathological laboratory, an X-ray room and an ophthalmic room.

US group to regulate Dubai paediatrics
- A US-based advocacy and education group for paediatricians is setting up practice in Dubai, bringing regulation and education standards for child health to an area lacking uniform paediatric policies. The Dubai chapter of the American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) will be the first overseas chapter of the medical group and is expected to work closely with UAE health authorities on child health policies.

UAE pre-marital screening provokes strong response
- The pre-marriage health screening campaign of the UAE Ministry of Health (MoH) launched in March has received an overwhelming response. Clinics across all MoH healthcare centres have conducted 9,398 tests in the past six months.
