GCC companies are significantly increasing their spending on information communication technology (ICT), according to a new report from Meed's research arm Meed Insight. 'GCC ICT Projects Outlook & Review' reports that the value of IT contracts awarded in the first half of 2010 outstripped the total spend for 2009 by 7%.
As the global economic crisis hit, companies were forced to look inwards in an attempt to become more efficient and cut costs. This did not just come in the form of redundancies. One of the major areas which faced cuts was travel budgets, and partly because of this, the market opened for more low cost solutions to holding meetings, networking and getting face to face time with customers. This year at GITEX 2010, some of these solutions were on show.
Cyber attacks have entered back into public view of late, with the much publicised Stuxnet worm being detected on national infrastructure. Reportedly government-made, this worm is the most well known of a new wave of IT threats, which are a lot more sophisticated than previous attacks.
