  • The Gitex Technology Week which took place earlier this month in Dubai was the setting for the regional launch of the Jordanian technology solutions and business consulting services company, Optimiza. AME Info took the opportunity to catch up with the firm's CEO Hazem Malhas to hear about his ambitious plans for the future.

  • The Microsoft Corporation has had a long association with Jordan, ever since King Abdullah and Bill Gates put pen to paper on an agreement back in January 2000, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, which led to Microsoft becoming the first multi-national technology firm to set up a base in the kingdom.

  • The establishment of a cement factory in the Jordanian city of Al Qatranah has moved a step nearer with the firm behind the project, Saudi Arabia's Arabian Cement Company, awarding the $110m construction contract to Germany's KHD Humboldt. But the news comes at a time when Jordan's real estate sector is suffering a slight wobble.

  • Jordan's government has expended much time and energy seeking out foreign investment from a variety of sources to keep its economy moving in the right direction. It has, of course, unearthed a rich seam in the nearby Gulf where the likes of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have pumped serious cash into the kingdom. Most recently, Jordan turned its attention to one of the world's fastest growing economic powers - China.

  • At the end of May, the cornerstone was laid to mark the start of the construction of the $70m National Jordanian Financial Centre. The centre is expected to provide a new home for the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) as well as offices for brokerage firms and banks. Once it is complete, the government hopes the centre will develop into a fully-fledged regional financial centre, securing further foreign investment into the kingdom.

  • Jordan aims to cut poverty and boost employment

  • While Jordan has done much to attract ever increasing levels of foreign investment in recent years, with the country's economy also expanding steadily, poverty and acute levels of unemployment still blight many parts of the kingdom. To help tackle the problem, King Abdullah has launched two special economic zone (SEZ) projects in the deprived areas of Mafraq and Irbid during the past six months.
