JD Capital unveils wide-ranging investments
- It was somewhat appropriate that Jordan Dubai Capital, the $300 million investment fund set up by Dubai International Capital, should choose the World Economic Forum at the Dead Sea in Jordan last month as the scene for its unveiling of a raft of new initiatives and deals cutting across a range of business sectors. For it was at the very same event two years before that the DIC first launched JD Capital.

Kempinski expands in Jordan and beyond
- One of Jordan's most ambitious hotel developments, the Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea, opened its doors just over a year ago and AME Info caught up with its General Manager, and Kempinski Regional Director, Duncan O'Rourke, at last week's Arabian Travel Market in Dubai to discuss the property's progress since then. Gulf based investors set up shop in Jordan
- The Jordanian-Saudi Projects Development Company rather appropriately chose the Jordanian-Saudi Economic Forum for its official launch a little earlier this month. Jordan Telecom on the road to expansion
- The Jordan Telecom Group, supported by its majority shareholder France Telecom, has taken a significant step towards regional expansion by acquiring a controlling stake in the Bahrain based Lightspeed Communications. The JTG hopes this deal will subsequently lead to several more that will enable it to build up its standing in the region's telecommunications sector. But, while the firm looks outwards, much still has to be done to build up its Internet customer base back in Jordan.

Jordan's tourism industry makes gains in a difficult year
- You might think the Jordan Tourism Board would have had every reason to take a deep breath when the kingdom's Department of Tourism and Antiquities released preliminary figures, towards the end of last month, for the sector's performance in 2006. Wars in nearby countries, the after-effects of the triple suicide bombing in Amman in late 2005 and then the shooting dead of a tourist in Amman in September would surely have decimated the statistics?

Jordan looks near and far for economic growth
- Figures released this week by Jordan's Department of Statistics have clearly underlined the key role the US plays in the kingdom's economic well-being. The superpower is by far and away Jordan's biggest export market, accounting for almost a third of the country's total exports. The US administration also stumps up regular financial assistance to Jordan but when it comes to imports, and investment, Jordan has to look a lot closer to home.
