Red tape hampers business
- Middle East executives, especially those running foreign companies, are having huge difficulties with government red tape, and say it hampers their business, according to a survey by Sage software. Respondents also identified a dearth of qualified staff in the region, particularly bilingual staff, according to Shishir Srivastava, Executive Director, Sage Software.

Almasa regional ambition
- Dubai-based IT group Almasa recently posted its results for the first time, recording 52 per cent growth in 2004. Profitablity was driven mainly by the company's IT services and support division. Finger on the electronic pulse
- NASDAQ-listed Australian company Metal Storm is in the final stages of producing a unique electronic ballistics system that allows rounds to be fired from a barrel using an electronic pulse, so no mechanical parts are involved. Ian Gillespie, General Manager, Metal Storm, says the system is ideal for remotely-controlled, robotic weaponry.
