It is hoped the move will lead to more rapid uptake of technologies such voice over IP, currently heavily restricted by state telco Etisalat.   • Acer is expecting strong growth in 2004, with a 100% increase in notebook sales in the UAE alone. The company believes the shortage of LCDs - a significant problem at the end of 2003 - will be over by Q2 2004. Acer EMEA currently ranks 3rd in the both the PC market and the notebook market.

  • IT distributor Logicom recently signed a deal with Cisco to become a Cisco Distribution Partner for Gulf countries. Logicom's Gulf headquarters in Dubai will be fully operational from April with a full stock of Cisco solutions and Cisco trained account managers.

  • Cisco Systems has appointed Logicom as a Cisco Distribution Partner (CDP) for Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the UAE and Yemen. Logicom will have a direct purchasing relationship with Cisco, and will be responsible for managing the relationship with IT resellers as well as undertaking channel development activities.
