  • The market for mobile phone headsets is enjoying rapid growth. Laws banning mobile use while driving, the increased availability of Bluetooth in handsets, and continued fears of radiation emissions are all contributing to demand. Jabra has just introduced its first mobile bluetooth speakerphone, allowing hands-free conversations in cars or offices.

  • LG is giving art lovers a chill with its new range of air conditioners. Art Cool units feature a range of colours and designs from Qu'ranic inscriptions to pictures by Van Gogh. LG is world number one for air conditioners, and number two in the Middle East.

  • Palm has upgraded its range of Zire consumer-end PDAs, featuring colour screens and multimedia capability. The high-end Zire 72 has a 1.2 megapixel camera and can create and edit MS Word and Excel compatible documents.

  • JVC product push

  • JVC has big plans to enhance its brand in the Middle East. The company is launching thirty new products in flat-screen, video and audio. JVC has enjoyed an average 50% year-on-year regional sales growth since 2001, and hopes to reach US$300 million by 2006.

  • Panasonic re-branding

  • Panasonic has finished rebranding its National line of home appliances and electrical products with the Panasonic names. The company hopes that this brand unification process will help it to increase sales by 20% by the next fiscal year. Particularly high growth is forecast for DVD recorders, Plasma and LCD screens, and SD memory card related products, such as digital still cameras.

  • LG Electronics' latest move is to sponsor the Iraqi football team, believing Iraq to be one of the most promising areas in the region. K H Kim, President, LG Electronics ME&A, expects Iraq to become one of its most important markets over the next three to four years. Kim also believes LG's strong growth in the Middle East will continue for at least the next three to five years.

  • Smarter way to buy

  • ENOC has introduced new smart payment cards with memory chip technology. ENOC already has 80,000 magnetic stripe card holders in the UAE, and the new cards will also be accepted in Oman. Group Chief Executive Hussain Sultan says he hopes that the cards will eventually be useable throughout the entire GCC.
