Ducab opens new plants in UAE
- Ducab, a joint venture between the governments of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, on Monday inaugurated two new plants in Abu Dhabi for copper rod production and new cables manufacturing, reported Gulf News. The copper rod plant is the first of its kind in the UAE and has an annual capacity of 110,000 tonnes, which can be expanded to 160,000 tonnes. The new cable factory is dedicated to the production of magnetised wire for engines and generators, and can produce 25,000 tonnes of copper and 7,000 tonnes of aluminium.

Saudi to cut steel exports
- Saudi Arabia will cut steel exports to neighbouring countries following a rise in domestic demand. The move, reported in local newspapers, mirrors a similar initiative last week which saw the kingdom slash cement exports.

Kuwait anti-piracy drive gathers pace
- The Kuwaiti Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in conjunction with global industry watchdog the Business Software Alliance, has destroyed thousands of illegal software CDs. The move is part of Kuwait's plan to establish itself as a secure IT investment destination. The pirated software disks were seized in a series of raids on retailers across the country.

DuPont Titanium to raise prices
- US-based DuPont Titanium Technologies has announced that it will be raising prices for Ti-Pure titanium dioxide grades. The $200 per tonne Middle East increase will be effective in two installments. The first $100 will come into force 1 July, while the second will take place 1 October.

Dubal shows 12.6% increase
- Dubai Aluminium (Dubal) has reported a 12.6% increase in output for 2007. The state-owned company's total output was 889,548 tonnes. Output for Q1 2008 also rose, showing a 5% increase on the same period last year.

AFICO completes factory expansion
- Arabian Fiberglass Insulation Co, a joint venture between Owens Corning and Zamil Industrial Investment Company and a sector business of Zamil Industrial, recently announced the completion of a major capacity expansion at its manufacturing facility located in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The expansion will allow AFICO to increase its production capacity by 50%, the company said in a statement.

UK paint contracting firm eyes UAE
- The biggest paint contracting company in the UK, Bell Group, said it is considering possible expansion in the Middle East to tap the opportunities of booming construction business in Dubai. The organisation, which specialises in top end decorating and protecting of new buildings, is looking to expand its operation outside Britain for the first time.

Abu Dhabi plans $490m industrial park
- State-owned Abu Dhabi Basic Industries Corporation is to build an industrial park and an associated polymer plant to manufacture substances used for plastics for $490m, reported Reuters. The company expects to attract investments to the park worth more than $4bn.
