  • Efeco buys 30,000 LG air-conditioners

  • Emirates Falcon Electromechanical(Efeco), a subsidiary of Arabtec Holding specialising in mechanical, electrical and plumbing works, has signed a deal with LG Electronics and its local representative, Fortune International Trading, to purchase 30,000 air conditioning units worth approximately Dhs70m ($19m). Efeco will install these units in more than 6,000 villas that it has under contract at various projects in Dubai.

  • Drake & Scull to launch Dhs1bn IPO

  • Dubai-based contracting firm Drake & Scull plans to raise Dhs1bn ($272m) in an initial public offering this month and list the stock on the Dubai Financial Market by October, reported Reuters. Owners of the company plan to sell a 55% stake, according to a company spokeswoman who declined to identify the owners.

  • 3M plans UAE plant

  • US manufacturing firm 3M is planning to launch a facility in the UAE this year, according to a Gulf News report. A senior official told the newspaper that construction was scheduled to begin within the next few months on a predetermined site, although the final level of investment had yet to be determined.

  • The Emirates Standardisation and Metrology Authority has announced that it has approved 500 set standard specifications for the UAE at its first directors' meeting. Of the approved measures 492 are GCC unified specifications.

  • UAE flooring market to hit Dhs1bn

  • The UAE's office flooring market will hit Dhs1bn ($272m) as the amount of floor space in offices and apartments has doubled in recent years, according to German floor manufacturer Parador. Parador has entered into a long standing sales agreement with office furniture supplier, OFIS. OFIS is the only supplier of major international brands including INTERFACE, Beaulieu of America, DVO, Zuco, and Bosse.

  • Arabtec arm signs $34m deal with Ducab

  • Emirates Falcon Electromechanical Company, a subsidiary of Arabtec Holding, has signed a Dhs125m ($34m) agreement with Ducab to supply electric cables to all of its projects in the UAE. The projects include a total of 6000 villas for the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid National Housing Programme at Al Warqa, Oud Muttena and Al Barsha; for Emaar at Emirates Hills, Arabian Ranches and Albawadi; Dubai Silicon Oasis villas, and Sanctuary Falls.

  • Everest Kanto plans $41m expansion

  • Everest Kanto Cylinders, India's largest compressed natural gas cylinder manufacturer, plans to invest up to $41m in expanding capacities across its plants in Dubai, the US, China, and India, reported India's Daily News Analysis.   • Drake & Scull wins Zamil contract

  • Drake & Scull International yesterday announced that Zamil Industrial has awarded it the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the district cooling system within Saudi Iron and Steel Company (Hadeed), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic), the company said in a press release. In 2007, Zamil Industrial signed a 22-year contract with Sabic for the outsourcing of process and comfort cooling and building plant to supply up to 20,000 tonnes of refrigeration at Hadeed.
