  • Stats sets up in Dubai

  • Sports information provider Stats is setting up a Middle East arm, based in Dubai. It will be a joint venture with Naveen Aranha, the founder of Sportz Interactive, an interactive media and digital sports content provider based in Mumbai. Stats Middle East will distribute worldwide sports content and data.

  • Corporate events help boost profits

  • Staging targeted corporate events is deemed as one of the most effective tools to communicate with stakeholders and increase company profits, according to a survey commissioned by MVM Events Dubai. The survey found that 63% of CEOs and senior management with event responsibilities would like to see less social events and more of a focus on corporate events in the UAE. Over half the people surveyed judged corporate events, combined with public and media relations, as the most powerful tool to engage stakeholders and meet specific company objectives. Three quarters of respondents outsource corporate events to a specialised company to ensure objectives are met, events are run smoothly to plan, and are kept within budget.

  • Escalator advertising now available in ME

  • Advertising on escalators is now available in the Middle East from Escalated Advertising, an Australian company. Escalator handrail media enables advertising, branding and decorative communication to be applied to existing escalator handrails at airports, train stations, shopping centres, and any other location with escalators.

  • SRMG profit declines by 49%

  • The Saudi Research & Marketing Group's (SRMG) net profit declined by 49% to SR145.7m in the first half of 2008 from SR287.4m during the same period in 2007, Arab News has reported. The fall in profit this year is attributed to exceptional profits made in 2nd quarter of 2007 after selling 30% of its subsidiary Saudi Printing & Packaging Company in an initial public offering.

  • Nickelodeon hits screen on 23 July

  • Nickelodeon Arabia is set to launch on Nilesat and Arabsat on 23 July. The free-to-air channel is in Arabic. Nickelodeon Arabia falls under the umbrella of Arabian Television Network, Arab Media Group's TV broadcasting arm.

  • Al-jazirah applies for BPA audit

  • Saudi daily newspaper Al-jazirah announced it has applied for audit under internationally recognised BPA Worldwide standards. The newspaper has received numerous awards including Best in Print prize in Asia by IFRA and the Arabian Journalism prize in Dubai for three successive years.

  • Advertising group appoints new chairman

  • Louis Hakim, Vice-President of Royal Philip Electronics and CEO of Philips Middle East was elected last month as chairman of Advertisers Business Group, formerly known as GCC Association of Advertisers. Louis replaces former Unilever Chairman, Jan Zijderveld, who is departing from the Middle East on to a new opportunity at Unilever based in Singapore. Alongside Louis Hakim's election, the newly appointed members of the committee include Sara Sahely, Manager of Group Advertising of Emirates, who was re-elected as Vice Chair, Raef Labaky from Nestle, Mark Butterfield from Unilever, Margie Gilbride from Beiersdorf , Chareeka Jolly from Kraft and Fadi Ghosn from General Motors.

  • Abu Dhabi to get mega LED advertising screen

  • Abu Dhabi-based Synaxis Media & Advertising, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Municipality, plans to unveil one of the largest LED advertising screens in the world - The Opulence - in the emirate on September 30, reported Gulf News. Officials said the Opulence will be an advertising space for all major corporations, international brands and advertisers. It will be a slightly curved screen, measuring 28 metres by 8 metres, or 224 square metres, thereby making advertisements visible from as far as one-kilometre away.
