New Emirates Bride magazine

Dubai's Motivate Publishing has launched the Emirates Bride magazine as a supplement to its popular Emirates Woman. This month's 240-page Emirates Woman and 75-page Emirates Bride is a powerful response to the new women's magazines launched this autumn by ITP and CPI.

DMC, 32-storey Moorish tower

The Dubai Media City is to get a 32-storey serviced apartment tower of Moorish design with a 16-storey office tower. Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback and Associates won the architectural competition held for the Al Sufouh mixed-use development. Space is now in very short supply in the DMC, hence more vertical development.

tmh, Virgin Megastore campaign

tmh, the Dubai-based brand management agency, has launched the Experience Virgin Megastore campaign across the Gulf, promoting the UK-based music retailer. The campaign broke recently in Dubai and Kuwait with full-page magazine adverts, press adverts and outdoor MUPIs and billboards.

Action wins Pearl-Qatar PR deal

The Pearl-Qatar, the USD 2.5 billion man-made island being built off the coast of Doha, has appointed Action Global Communications to handle international public relations. Dubai-headquartered MCS/Action will run the account. MCS is the the Gulf arm of Nicosia-based Action Group.

Saatchi and Saatchi appoints CEOs

Saatchi and Saatchi has appointed Vikram Naidu and George Assad as Co-CEOs for the Middle East. Naidu was formerly COO of Saatchi and Saatchi Middle East, while Assad was CEO of the company's Saudi Arabia operations.

Emirates sponsors Arsenal, USD180m

Emirates Airline and English Premier League football club Arsenal have signed the biggest club sponsorship in football history, collectively worth some USD180m. Arsenal's new stadium will be called the Emirates Stadium, and Arsenal will have Emirates as their shirt sponsor.

Omani newspapers go online

The Times of Oman and Al Shabiba are poised to become Oman's first online newspapers after signing a deal with Indian IT consultancy Bodhtree. The newspapers, the oldest in Sultanate, will go live as ePapers with the use of Bodhtree's ePaper publishing package.

Journalism award roadshow

The Arab Journalism Award has launched a series of regional roadshows in a bid to encourage more journalists to enter. Mona Al Marri, General Secretary of the Arab Journalism Award, said the growing number of entries for the 2004 award reflects growing regional interest in the scheme.

Arabia.com closes down

Arabia.com has closed down and its traffic is being diverted to another website. Sources said the general portal for the Middle East had racked up losses of tens of millions over the past five years. Saudi investor Prince Alwaleed bin Talal was one of several high profile shareholders.

AME Info, record page views

AMEInfo.com showed a record 16m page views in September, up five per cent on the previous month. The website is also now rated the top business website in the region by Alexa.com, ahead of Bayt.com and Maktoub.com. AME Info's Google Rank remains the highest in the Middle East.

Film festival unveils sponsors

UAE bids to host Postal Union

Emirates Post has made a bid to host the 24th postal congress in 2008, part of an ongoing campaign to boost the national image by the UAE Government. The only other contender is Kenya. Labour Minister and acting Communications Minister Matar Humaid Al Tayer is leading the bid.
