Qatar's Al Jazeera TV channel is hiring more than 300 staff around the world for its new English language news channel, Al Jazeera International. MD Nigel Parsons said the new station will operate from four centres including Qatar and was confident it would find an audience.
The Arabian Radio Network is broadcasting a programme that invites cases of hardship and listeners then vote for the person who most needs USD27,000 in charity. The Al Awla programme is broadcast every evening at 11pm on 98.9FM with expert discussion of individual cases.

The English language edition of A Reformer on the Throne by Sergey Plekhanov, which details the life and achievements of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos of Oman, has been published by UK-based Trident Press. The 286-page English edition has additional photographs not included in the Arabic and Russian versions.
Internet search leader Google has posted a doubling of profits to USD52m in Q3, highlighting the boom in Internet advertising around the world. Google and rival Yahoo are the most popular English language websites in the Middle East.

Emirates Airline has scored another first for regional advertising with the installation of the first-ever mechanical billboard in Dubai. The billboard near the Garhoud Bridge showcases the airline's Airbus A340-500 First Class mini-suites, suspended 30 metres above the ground.

Doha Asian Games Broadcast Services, a joint venture between TWI and Host Broadcast Services, has been selected as the host broadcaster for the 2006 Asian Games. This will provide more than 3,000 hours of television coverage of the 40 sports on the current competition schedule. DAGBS services will include management of the International Broadcast Centre.
The promotion campaign and roadshows for this year's Ibda'a Media Student Awards reached 250 universities around the world. The awards are intended to raise awareness among students of the opportunities that exist for media graduates in Dubai, home of the Dubai Media City.
