The UAE has the highest number of FM radio stations in the Arab world, with 19 stations operating under five networks, according to a report by the Arab Advisers Group. Algeria is next, with 17 stations operating under the state's RTA network.

A Middle Eastern magazine will be published in the UK in November, to demystify misconceptions about Arab cultures, and improve the "tarnished" image of the Arab world. It will focus on information, entertainment, and advice on social issues, beauty, fashion, and health. There are at least half a million people of Arab origin living in the UK.
Duvade have introduced Moviebank, a 24-hour fully-automated DVD rental system, to Dubai. Customers can use the system to browse a movie catalogue, watch trailers and have a movie automatically dispensed. Membership is free, with a refundable security deposit required.

Organisers of the Dubai International Film Festival 2005 say this year's event will feature more and diverse films. The programme includes films from new sections Insights from Asia, Café Europe, and In Honour of Africa. There will also be two sections, Dubai Discoveries and Emerging Emiratis, which focus on Arab cinema and local filmmakers.

Gulf Air has become the official international carrier of the HSBC Waratahs. This sponsorship is a first for Gulf Air in Australia since commencing daily services to Sydney in November 2003. The latest US figures show that online advertising is surging. IAB/PwC figures released last week showed a 26% surge in Net advertising to $5.8bn in the first half of 2005. The Internet is now the fastest growing media for advertising and sponsorship, a trend that is also seen in the Middle East as more and more people go on line for news and entertainment.

Organisers of the for the 15th Asian Games 2006 in Doha have held the first broadcast meeting for the major sporting event being held Qatar. Organisers briefed participating international media representatives on production and broadcast plans for games, which start on 1 December 2006.
Etisalat is introducing visual radio, which allows users to interact with radio content by downloading images of the artist and similar songs. Visual radio is seen as a way for marketing and content providers to identify user preferences and send targeted advertising. Mass response initiatives such as voting are also possible.

Dow Jones and the Middle East financial information group, ABQ Zawya, are setting up a regional news service covering the region's financial markets. The service will be included in a new subscription product being developed for Zawya's premium business and financial portal, which will be launched before the end of 2005.
The Arab Media Group says it has not made any approaches to buy magazine publisher ITP, according to a report in Gulf News. But sources told the daily that AMG has expansion plans in the magazine sector and buying ITP was part of the plan.
