Saudi Arabian youth will have a new daily newspaper before the year-end, according to Campaign Middle East today. The full-colour tabloid will be entitled 'Sh.m.s', which means 'youth, variety, Saudi', and print 120,000 copies a day. A Saudi investor is supporting the project in a venture with Al Wataniya.

Bahrain's new Arabic newspaper, 'Al Watan' or The Nation, was published for the first time yesterday, promising to give a 'deep responsible and independent analysis of all developments in the country' and 'not to invest its pens in orientations that are contrary to the interests of the nation'.
ITP journalist, and former editor of Arabian Business, Anil Bhoyrul faces a possible prison sentence after being found guilty at London's Southwark Crown Court of using his City Slickers column in the Daily Mirror to create a false market in shares that he owned. His sentence of fines or up to seven years in prison will be passed next month, the first time in living memory that a UK journalist has faced jail.

BusinessWeek magazine is to cease publishing its European and Asian editions at the end of this month due to poor sales of financial advertising and competition from the Internet. Editor-in-chief Stephen Adler said advertising was increasingly moving online, and that 25% of hits on the US magazine's website were international.

The Middle East pay TV market is growing annually by 40%, while the number of free-to-air channels has grown to more than 150, according to a report by Booz Allen Hamilton. But the report warns of challenges ahead for the industry, with greater financial transparency, shareholder expectations, and oversupply of channels likely to drive changes in the future.
Middle East war correspondent Robert Fisk will be at the Mall of Emirates in Dubai on 10 December to sign copies of his latest book, The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle East. Fisk is based in Beirut as Middle East correspondent for UK-based newspaper The Independent.

Independent research by Stat-Ipsos from May 1 to June 30 has shown that Al Arabiya is the number one watched satellite TV channel in Iraq. The survey showed 41% of Iraq's population, within the main cities watched Al Arabiya. Runner-up was Al Sharqiya, ahead of Al Jazeera.
