New UAE demographics, HSBC

HSBC has published a new analysis of the UAE population. It estimates that some 20 per cent, or 791,000, of an official population of 4m are UAE nationals, while there are 2.6m expatriate Asians, 610,000 expatriate Arabs and 120,000 from other nationalities; men out number women by 2.6:1 while the median age for men is 30 and women 20.

2005 DSF awards for journalism

The Dubai Shopping Festival's annual DSF Journalism Award is expected to attract many entries. Last year journalists from local newspapers and magazines submitted more than 300 articles. The prestigious awards ceremony is held at the close of the DSF.

E-vision revamps info channel

Emirates Cable TV and Multimedia will introduce programming on its information channel for the first time, and screen events. The channel recently broadcast events at the Dubai Film Festival. New content will include film trailers and celebrity interviews, as well as archive material on the UAE.

Emarat launches Vision

Emirates General Petroleum Company has launched a 136-page English and Arabic magazine, titled Visions. It features special sections on energy, oil, the environment, IT, exhibitions and sport. It will be distributed to staff, customers and shareholders.

Kuwait information minister goes

Kuwait's Information Minister Mohammad Abolhassan resigned the day before he was to face questioning by MPs over morality issues, reported Kuna. He had been called by Islamist lawmakers to face allegations of failing to safeguard the principles, values and morals of Kuwaiti society and of committing a string of constitutional and legal violations.

Ajman TV features DSF

Ajman TV is to feature many programmes direct from the Dubai Shopping Festival 2005. There will be daily shows on Ahlan Dubai from 9pm to 1am on weekends and from 9am to 1am on Eid days. The channel will also broadcast a daily 30-minute programme with highlights of the DSF.
