Business Week, the 76-year-old business and financial magazine owned by McGraw-Hill has launched an Arabic edition for Saudi Arabia. This places the magazine in direct competition to the ITP weekly Arabian Business which is the only other English language weekly business magazine with an Arabic edition.
The agencies that will handle next year's Asian Games in Doha were revealed by Campaign Middle East. Grey Worldwide won above the line advertising, Wunderman below the line activity, and Bates PanGulf took public relations. The three agencies will now either open offices in Doha or increase staff dedicated to this account.
Bahrain will get its first non-state radio station tomorrow when Sawt Al Ghad, The Voice of Tomorrow, starts broadcasting from the Kingdom's tallest building, Al Moayyad Tower. The station will avoid politics and news and focus on entertainment and sport.
The rumoured new tabloid from Al Nisr Publishing, Project X, has yet to appear, although a team of journalists is in place. This new entrant from the publisher of Gulf News will hot up competition in the UAE tabloid market where the launch of Emirates Today is making life tough for the original tabloid 7Days.

Dubai Government-owned Emirates National Oil Company , and its subsidiary Emirates Petroleum Products Company, has appointed Asda'a Public Relations to spearhead its communications strategy for the Middle East and the Far East. Khalid Hadi, Group Brand Manager, ENOC, said the group is determined to consolidate its position as a brand leader across the various markets.

The Fujairah Government is planning to establish its own independent TV channel in collaboration with a leading foreign media group, reported Gulf News. The Ruler Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammad Al Sharqi said the new channel will be a distinguished addition to local and Arab media.

Connector Publishing is introducing a tourism magazine called Discover Dubai, at the Media and Marketing Show 2005. The magazine is aimed at the growing tourist traffic in Dubai, and will provide a comprehensive guide to events and places to visit in the emirate.

Advertising spend in Arab countries has increased 20% in the first nine months of 2005, according to Ipsos-Stat. The rise was fuelled by higher spend in TV, newspapers and magazines in the countries monitored. The increase was strongest in the UAE, and in advertising on Arabic satellite television channels.
Al Arabiya will broadcast a documentary on the late UAE president Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Zayed: The Wise Man of the Arabs will air for three consecutive days from 26 October. It reveals the political life of Sheikh Zayed through his participation in Arab summits and his support of different Arab causes.

Impact Porter Novelli has been appointed as the PR agents for THE One and BoConcept for the Middle East region. THE One has its home lifestyle stores located in the UAE, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar and Sweden.
Bin Hendi Enterprises has bought a 50% stake in Dubai Media City-based fashion and lifestyle satellite channel InTV. Chairman Mohi-Din Bin Hindi told Gulf News the channel will be reshaped, with a focus on business and entertainment. Details of the deal were not disclosed.

Saudi Arabia will allow public screenings of films in the Kingdom for the first time in 20 years during Eid Al Fitr, reported Arab News. But the cinema at a Riyadh hotel will only be open to women and children to screen cartoons from 2-3 November.
Outdoor advertising agencies in Jeddah said a city ban on billboards on roofs, shopping malls and petrol stations will ruin them, reported Campaign Middle East. This ban will force agencies to compete for expensive municipality controlled sites. Smaller agencies said the bigger agencies were ganging up to put them out of business.
