Avid Technology, a manufacturer of digital media products, has appointed Dubai's Wecom Global as its agent for the UAE, according to Gulf News. Wecom will look after Avid's newsroom solutions, audio and video products, and broadcast systems. Avid is banking on a 50%-60% growth in the digital media industry in the UAE in the next three years.

Emaar Financial Services has authorised O2 Marketing Communications to carry out marketing, advertising and communications activities on its behalf in the UAE and the wider region. Under the agreement, O2 will launch an integrated marketing campaign to promote the financial services EFS offers to investors in the UAE and the region and will feature its various activities on a set of satellite channels and in mass-circulation newspapers and magazines.

Sama Dubai, the developer of The Lagoons, has unveiled the Middle East's largest billboard. At 400 metres long and 20 metres high, at its upper most point, the billboard is part of Sama Dubai's outdoor marketing campaign promoting the 70m sqft creek side development. The hoarding will be visible to up to 250,000 motorists a day as they travel between junctions two and three on Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Road.

The first prize will be a trip for two to the Cannes Film Festival 2007. Dubai Studio City has revealed that over 50% of the space in the project's $100m first phase has been taken, reported Gulf News. 20 boutique studios geared up for broadcasting companies are scheduled to be completed early next year. Director Jamal Al Sharif said that studios suited to the film production industry will be available in late 2007.

Jordan's Cabinet has approved a licence for BBC Radio to broadcast programmes over FM in the greater Amman area and Ajloun, The Jordan Times reported. The government acted on a recommendation by the Socio-Economic Development Committee.

Time Out Beirut, which suspended publication during the recent conflict, is set to relaunch, according to Time Out founder Tony Elliott, quoted by CampaignME. He said the magazine's Beirut offices were destroyed by Israeli bombing, and it will have to be restarted nearly from scratch. Time Out Beirut will restart as an online publication, and then move back into print as soon as possible.
