The Dubai Press Club is to host the Reuters Foundation workshop, Making Television News. Reuters TV Production Editor Lloyd Watson will lead the workshop to be held from 3-7 December; he will be supported by Ahmad Assar, Senior Producer, Reuters Dubai. The five day programme will cover research, writing for TV, camera work and editing, with lectures supported by practical exercises and video examples.

A controversial film which was premiered at last year's Cairo International Film Festival and deals with the subject of female circumcision has still yet to be released in Egypt, reported Gulf News. Dunia, directed by Lebanese film-maker Jocelyn Saab, was attacked for damaging the country's image. The Egyptian film censorship board deny the film has been banned and say the delay is due to a financial wrangle.
The director of Dubai Media City, Mohamad Al Mulla, has been elected to the board of directors of the UAE Chapter of the International Advertising Association. Marwan Rizk, VP Middle East and Africa, IAA Worldwide, says we are confident Al Mulla will contribute to shaping the future of the advertising and marketing industry in the UAE and the Arab world.

Award winning reporter Robert Fisk will be in Dubai next month to promote his book The Great War For Civilisation, according to Gulf News. The Beirut-based journalist, who writes for The Independent newspaper, will appear at the Mall of the Emirates to sign copies of the book, which is now in paperback.

Full Throttle, a magazine about motorbikes, is being launched in GCC countries by Dubai-based Corinthian Publishing and Sports Management Group. It will cover news, features, sporting and social events relating to all class of motorbikes, in addition to quad bikes, dragsters and jet skis.

New Dubai English language channel City 7 TV launches today. The channel is produced in the UAE and has local and outside content. Carrying a mix of news, business and motoring features, entertainment and children's shows, MD Stephen Marney says the channel caters for the whole family. City 7 TV can be viewed free-to-air on Nilesat, and is also available through satellite channels.

ITP is bringing Harper's Bazaar magazine to the Middle East with partner Hearst Publishing. The style and fashion magazine is due to come out in early 2007.
Emirates airline has signed as title sponsor for the final of the IRB Sevens rugby series in Scotland. The event runs from 2-3 June 2007 at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. The Emirates Airline Dubai Sevens is taking place this weekend.

A new Palestinian daily in English was launched Monday, which will be the first Palestinian newspaper distributed in Israel, news agencies reported. The Palestinian Times is aimed at the English-speaking minority in the West Bank and Gaza, and publishers also hope to win readers in Israel.
Online video is starting to turn people away from normal TV, according to an ICM survey carried out for the BBC. It found that 43% of Britons who watch video on the internet or a mobile device at least once a week say they watch less conventional TV as a result. Online video viewers are still a minority, but several UK networks are planning to offer most of their shows on demand on the internet from early 2007.
A newspaper editor in Yemen has been sentenced to 12 months in jail for reprinting Danish cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad, the BBC reported. The court also ordered the weekly to be closed for six months. The editor, Kamal al-Aalafi, said he had reprinted the cartoons to raise awareness, not to insult Muslims.
Showtime Arabia has appointed Marc-Antoine d'Halluin as its new President and CEO. d'Halluin's most recent role was as Chief Executive of the European Pay-TV company, Canal Plus Nordic, while he has previously held executive positions with both Fox Kids and Sony Pictures.
The Media and Marketing Show 2006 opens today at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre and will run until November 29. Many regional media companies will be in attendance including MBC, LBC, AMG, the Choueiri Group, Reuters and Qatar Media Services. Organised by the Domus Group, more than 10,000 visitors are expected to attend.

Real Media-Zee Network's Zee Cinema has said that all its programmes are now including Arabic subtitles, promos, menu cards and tune-ins. The 24 hour Hindi movie channel, which lasunched in India in 1995, is currently available on E-Vision and as part of the Pehla Silver package. It will soon be available on other platforms as well.

The Middle East Media Guide has been renamed the Middle East and North Africa Media Guide following the addition of four extra countries in the 2007 edition, which launches tomorrow, Monday. The publication now includes contact details for media outlets in Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia, bringing the number of countries covered to 18. The guide lists contact details for more than 3,500 media companies across the region.
