Bahrain prosecutor seeks help

The Bahrain public prosecutor has called on the local media to help reverse a growing culture of lawlessness. In a statement to the press he said 58,000 criminal cases were filed last year, up from 47,486 in 2004, and that the media had a significant role in fostering lawfulness.

Media praises Maktoum legacy

UAE and regional newspapers are swamped by the outpouring of grief following the sudden death of UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum yesteday. Many businesses placed advertisements as a mark of respect, and praised the remarkable transformation of the UAE under his rule.

40th IAA event in Dubai

The 40th International Advertising Association World Congress will be held in Dubai from March 20-23. Top global agencies BBDO, Euro RSCG, FCB, Leo Burnett, Ogilvy, UM7 and Young & Rubicam have all agreed to take part in a special industry exhibition section to be held in parallel with the Congress, at the Dubai International Convention Centre.

Bahrain top book publisher

Bahraini authors published 132 books, according to the latest United Nations Development programme report, which places the island state at the top of the Arab world in terms of publications per capita. But overall the average publication of seven books per million people in the Arab world was very low by world standards.

RAK launches media free zone

The Ras Al Khaimah Media Free Zone was launched yesterday, which hopes to cash in on companies leaving the Dubai Media City due to spiralling rental costs. The Century Media Centre is to set up the first phase of the project with a satellite link-up, reported Gulf News.

The 40th International Advertising Association World Congress is being held in Dubai from 20-23 March 2006.
