AME Info, Out of Blue tie-up

AME Info has unveiled a tie-up with Out of Blue, a Bluetooth proximity marketing firm. Out of Blue will now be able to offer Bluetooth enabled mobile phone users the opportunity to receive free live business news via AME Info. Lars B. Nielsen, VP Sales, AME Info said the new partnership would enable business executives to access what they need, when they need it.

i2 launches TV station

i2 has launched a 24 hour television station dedicated to mobile technology, for mobile users across the region. i2 TV airs on Nile Sat 103 and provides viewers with information on latest products with the option of accessing them on demand through the station's website www.i2-mobile.tv. i2 TV has been described as an Arabic 'infotainment' channel.

Dubai Magharebia launched

The Dubai Media Corporation plans to launch a new satellite TV channel called Dubai Magharebia, according to the local WAM news agency. The corporation has completed all technical and administrative preparations prior to launching the channel which is geared at viewers in Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Morocco and Mauritania. The new channel will broadcast via the Hotbird satellite from next month and a marketing campaign is set to be rolled out.

E-Vision 50% discount offer

E-Vision is offering discounts on packages until 14 January 2007. Under the promotion, new customers get free installation and a 50% discount on subscription charges for the first two months on all E-Vision packages, as well as the chance to prizes such as MP3 and DVD Players.

No Al Jaz for US viewers

Al Jazeera English went live to over 80m households on Wednesday, but not in the US, Gulf News reported. Officials said they had no deals with US cable providers and major satellite systems. US viewers can still access the channel via the GlobeCast satellite system and internet.

Du media blitz

UAE telco Du has launched a TV and print media campaign in the lead-up to the launch of its mobile phone operations. Under the tagline 'add life to life', the company hopes to draw customers to its products and services when commercial operations commence. No launch date has been set.

Burston-Marsteller, JiWin deal

Public relations firm Burston-Marsteller has signed an affiliation agreement with Dubai-based JiWin, the PR arm of the Dubai Press Club. JiWin was created in February 2006 and had 50 staff. Its clients include various Dubai government-owned companies.

Al Jaz English starts tomorrow

Al Jazeera English, formerly known as Al Jazeera International, starts broadcasting tomorrow, 15 November. The channel says it will reach around 80m cable and satellite homes, more than double its launch target. Live streaming, RSS feeds, e-mail newsletters and interactive discussion boards will also be available online.

Emirates blog search created

A dedicated web search for UAE-based blogs has been created using Google Technology. EmiratesBlogs.com uses Google's Co-op feature to bring together blogs and websites related to the UAE. It was created by Apple User Group EmiratesMac.com. UAE bloggers can suggest their sites for inclusion, as well as other relevant sites they find.

Zee buys 50% of Ten Sports

Zee Telefilms says it has bought a 50% stake in Dubai-based Ten Sports from Taj Television. The value of the deal was not disclosed, but was based on an enterprise value of $114m for Taj TV. Ten Sports has broadcast rights to major international sporting events. It airs in the subcontinent, Middle East and Hong Kong.

Lowe comes to region

Communications and advertising firm Lowe Worldwide is opening an office in Dubai, which will be managed by Middle East Communication Networks. MCN says it recently acquired the Lowe brand from the Interpublic Group. Lowe has offices in Morocco, Riyadh and Doha, and will open in Beirut and Cairo in the next few weeks.

IMFF for Dubai

The International Management Film Festival, which is coming to the Middle East for the first time, will show 16 films covering a wide range of topics. The event is taking place on November 15 at Le Meridien Hotel Dubai from 4.00pm-9.00pm. The theme of the IMFF Dubai 2006 will be 'Ideas aren't enough - Strategies and Tactics for Innovation'.

Al Jaz unveils Inside Story

Doha's Al Jazeera English has unveiled details of Inside Story, a daily half-hour discussion programme that will provide analysis and commentary on the day's major news stories. The programme will draw on sister channel Al Jazeera's Ma Wara al Khabar, Behind the News, programme. Inside Story will air live five days a week at 4.30pm GMT.

Frost, Al Jaz flagship show

Sir David Frost is to present Al Jazeera English's flagship current affairs show, Frost over the World, every Friday evening at 6pm GMT from London. The first programme will be aired on Friday, November 17. The Doha based news channel will commence broadcasting this Wednesday, November 15, at 12pm GMT.
