A photographer working for the Associated Press has been shot dead in Baghdad, according to the news agency. Ahmad Hadi Naji's body was found in a morgue six days after he went missing on his way to work; he had been shot in the back of the head. Naji, 28, is the fourth AP staff member to be killed in Iraq since the start of the war.
The National Media Council has begun distributing the recently issued 2007 UAE Year Book, according to the local WAM news agency. The title, which includes a preface by the Minister for Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is available in Arabic, English and French. There has as yet been no word on the whereabouts of a Peruvian cameraman, Jaime Razuri, who was kidnapped in Gaza City on January 1, according to agency reports. Four gunmen seized Razuri as he was returning to the AFP's bureau. Meanwhile, a Palestinian journalist working for the local Maan news agency was wounded by Israeli gunfire during an incursion into Ramallah on January 4.
Arabic web portal Maktoob.com has acquired Saudi-based AlFrasha.com, which it says is one of the region's most popular women's websites. With the acquisition, Maktoob claims to have the largest women's audience of Arab online media.
UAE-based Royal Jet has appointed TBWA/RAAD as its advertising agency following an extensive review, the Bahrain tribune reported. The agency beat off bids from three other short-listed agencies. The luxury air charter company also runs a commercial air ambulance operation.

Dubai's International Media Production Zone is looking to attract investment from the Indian printing, packaging and publishing sector. iMPZ is offering 76 pre-built units with showrooms with warehouses, and facilities that include an exhibition and conference hall, business centre, and a hotel and a media community centre, according to a statement. iMPZ recently participated in the Printing and Allied Machinery Exhibition in Mumbai.

Web encyclopaedia Wikipedia banned for 12 hours anonymous posts to its site from Qatar after reports of net vandalism, the BBC reported. Wikipedia says pages about the US, sex and the birthday of the prophet Muhammad were vandalised. The blanket ban was due to all web traffic in the state being routed through a single IP address.
Iraq's government has ordered independent television channel Sharkiya to close for allegedly inciting sectarianism, Reuters reported. The channel, which broadcasts from Dubai, says it takes an independent editorial line, though many viewers see it as favouring Sunni Arab views, the report said. It was not clear what impact the government's order would have.
Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Al Ain University for Science and Technology have agreed to jointly publish a bilingual Arabic and English scientific magazine called Islamic and Middle East Business Review Journal, the local WAM reported. It will initially come out once a year, and possibly half-yearly or quarterly later.
