Dubai's Motivate signs venture with OPP
- Dubai-based Motivate Publishing announced the signing of a joint venture with On Product Publishing International (OPP), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Modern Media Concepts, the global company behind the world's first magazine on a bottle. The joint venture, called Motivate OPP Middle East will be headed by Thomas Kelly and will operate from Dubai and already has a number of projects in the pipeline for 2008.

Al Jazeera signs partnership with Hong Kong Cable
- Al Jazeera English announces a new deal with one of Asia's leading cable operators, Hong Kong Cable for the channel to broadcast in Hong Kong. The agreement is yet another step forward for Al Jazeera English's rapid distribution growth - the channel now reaches over 100 million households worldwide. Al Jazeera will debut on Hong Kong Cable on January 16 this year.

Dubai editors to monitor newspapers
- Editors in Chief of local newspapers in Dubai are setting up a committee to follow up the implementation of the journalist code of ethics, reported Gulf News. The committee, which will be chaired by Saeed Al Badi, Board member of the UAE Journalists Association, will monitor the newspapers to ensure the implementation of the code of ethics, without having censorship authority.

DICEC welcomes 1m visitors
- The Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre had its biggest year ever in 2007, welcoming more than one million visitors - an increase of 25% - across exhibitions, events, conferences and other shows. In total, the venue hosted 97 exhibitions and nine confexes (conferences with significant exhibition components).

Cairo journalists protest over benefits
- Around 150 reporters, most of them working for state-owned newspapers and magazines, protested about overdue benefits at Egypt's Dar al-Tahrir publishing house, reported IOL. They claimed that the publisher paid high-level media workers, including the managing directors of its publications, outstanding benefits but refused to do the same for its reporters.

British journalist forced to stop working in Iran
- Iran has refused to renew the visa of a British journalist based in Tehran, forcing him to leave the Islamic Republic, and has asked the Guardian to propose a new correspondent, reported Reuters. The Guardian reported that Robert Tait had been 'expelled' from Iran without explanation after his visa and residence permit were not renewed.

Digital Film Club to open in Abu Dhabi
- Abu Dhabi plans to launch a new Digital Film Club which is aimed at promoting creativity in the emirate and and boosting the movie industry, reported Khaleej Times. Run by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), the club will be located at the emirate's Cultural Foundation and will operate on a membership basis. It is expected to open later this spring.

Pehla adds on premier Urdu channel
- Pehla Premium, an Asian entertainment TV station announced the addition of Pakistan's premier news, current affairs and entertainment channel- Aaj TV on its packages. The Urdu channel, will be targeting the Asian diaspora across the region will be made available to Pehla Basic, Silver and Gold subscribers at no added cost. Aaj TV is one of the biggest Urdu language television channels in the world and has earned a good reputation for covering of local and international news.
