Kuwait tops press freedom report
- In a press freedom report on the Arab region released by the Amman Centre for Human Rights Studies, Qatar has been ranked in third place while Mauritania and Kuwait topped the list of 18 Arab countries, reported Gulf News. Meanwhile, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Libya occupy the lowest ranks.

Digital revolution dissected in Dubai
- Speakers at the AME Info Digital Marketing Conference will include experts from Nakheel, Jumeirah, Nokia and HSBC. The two-day conference, which will run two days of workshops before and after the event, is aimed at marketing professionals who want to strengthen their knowledge in the digital sector, such as online and mobile communications. Research on the market from YouGovSiraj will be exclusively revealed, plus the audience will be able to participate in interactive voting throughout the conference. It takes place from 24-27 March at Le Royal Meridien hotel in Dubai.

Ghossoub to receive Lynx Award
- Joseph Ghossoub, CEO of Dubai-based The Holding Group, will be honoured with the first Dubai Lynx Advertising Person of the Year Award, according to organisers of the first Dubai International Advertising Festival. Ghossoub will be honoured for his outstanding contribution in lifting the profile of Dubai on the international stage of creative advertising.

Google launches Adwords in Arabic
- Google Inc. has announced the launch of its Business Pages feature for AdWords in Arabic. AdWords Business Pages are a free feature of the AdWords Starter Edition advertising platform aimed at small and medium-sized businesses that want to try online marketing. They enable these AdWords advertisers to create a simple, basic landing page containing a description of their business, phone number, address, operating hours, location, and accepted payment methods. The pages can even be customised with the logo and photos of the business.

Jordan jails 4 journos
- The Jordan Press Association is expressing 'concern' over the conviction of four leading journalists, reported The Jordan Times. Although the kingdom's Press and Publications Law prohibits jailing journalists for charges related to performing their job, other laws, such as the penal code, still allow detention and imprisonment under different labels, such as libel. In three cases involving penal code provisions, the court has issued three-month prison sentences to chief editor of Al Arab Al Yawm Arabic daily, Taher Adwan, and reporter, Sahar Qassem, in addition to former chief editor of Ad Dustour daily Osama Sharif and its reporter Fayez Louzi.

Al Jazeera 'surprised' by Israeli boycott
- The Al Jazeera news channel has issued a statement saying it was 'very surprised' to learn about the decision by Israeli authorities on Wednesday to boycott the channel, reported Gulf News. Israel had announced that it would impose sanctions on the Qatari-baded satellite network, accusing it of biased coverage in favour of the Hamas movement. Al Jazeera said it has not received any communication from the Israeli government regarding the boycott, and further stated that it has always stived to cover the news in a fair and balanced professional manner.
