  • Dubai-based Scorpions Productions announced its latest venture to set up offices in London and New York at at cost of Dhs25m. The production offices in London and New York will include tie-ups with entertainment and production organizations to promote exchange of international entertainment and talent.

  • New games channel for kids

  • Dubai-based International Media Concepts Limited has launched the region's first interactive games channel targeted at young viewers, reported Gulf News. The company's managing director Fadi Jabbour said the company expects between 400,000 and 600,000 people to use its games services in a year. The company has signed a three-year transponder lease agreement with Arabsat, the Arab world's largest satellite operator, for launching the MG TV channel, which will broadcast from Jordan's media city.

  • Dubai to host Cannes Lions advertising festival

  • Dubai will host its first international advertising festival from March 31 to April 2, reported Gulf News. The festival, which will be presented by Cannes Lions, will incorporate the second Dubai Lynx Awards, which started last year to recognise creative talents in the Middle East and North Africa region. The Cannes Lions chose Dubai as the first of its regional festivals outside Europe because of its growing GDP and rising advertising and marketing spend, said Philip Thomas, chief executive of Cannes Lions.

  • BBC to launch Arabic TV channel

  • BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) has announced that it will launch its Arabic language TV channel on Tuesday, March 11. The channel, which will initially broadcast for 12 hours a day, is part of the BBC's integrated multi-media news service for the Arab world. It will move to 24/7 in the summer and is the BBC's first publicly funded international television service. BBC Arabic television will be freely available to everyone with a satellite or cable connection in the region, whether they are in North Africa, the Middle East or the Gulf.

  • Marketplace to air from Dubai

  • Marketplace, an American Public Media's daily business and economics news program will be airing from Cairo and Dubai starting March 3-14. The program will be reporting with a special two-week series entitled The Middle East@Work.

  • HDTV to be showcased at Dubai exhibit

  • High definition television (HDTV) will be showcased at Cabsat, an international electronic, media and satellite communications event for Middle East, Africa and South Asia, taking place at Dubai World Trade Centre from March 4 to 6. The digital broadcast system is currently being used in Europe, North America and Australia and will now be available in the Gulf, as broadcasters prepare to switch from the traditional system, according to Mohammad Al Shahi, director of du broadcasting services. He said the company is read to broadcast in HD, reported Gulf News.
