Standard Chartered to sponsor Qatari students
- Standard Chartered Bank has signed a three year agreement with the Ministry of Labour to sponsor Qatari students who will then join the bank as full time employees. The agreement provides for Standard Chartered to sponsor Qatari students from Qatar University or any of the other universities in the country in their first and second year of study.

Fall in Oman oil exports
- Oman's total exports of crude oil stood at 161.7 million barrels (mb) during the first nine months of 2008, against 167.2mb in the comparable period of last year, a 3.6% decline. Total production of oil and condensates was 205.5mb, compared with 193.4mb, constituting a 6.5% rise, according to new statistics published by the Ministry of National Economy. The average daily production reached 750,000 barrels from 707,001, up 6.1%.

Mashreq 2008 profits up
- Mashreq Bank's net profits are set to be over Dhs2bn in 2008, a Gulf investment bank said yesterday. Mashreq will profit a record Dhs2.05bn this year compared with nearly Dhs1.9bn in 2007, said Kuwait-based Global Investment House. The bank's net profits have surged by around 12.3% to Dhs1.5bn in the first 9-months of 2008 from Dhs1.4bn in the same period 2007.

Qatar Islamic Bank ups IT centre
- Sheikh Abdullah Bin Saoud Al Thani, Qatar Central Bank (QCB) Governor has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Information Technology (IT) Centre at Qatar Islamic bank's headquarters. The IT centre upgrade is one of 30 projects designed to transfer the entirety of the bank's IT systems to 2010 technologies.
