Mizin awards bid to Bin Laden Construction and ERC
- Mizin, the real estate development arm of Tatweer, has awarded Phase II infrastructure works on the Liwan, Arjan and Majan master developments to Bin Laden Construction and Emirates Roads Contracting (ERC). Phase II infrastructure work involves the construction of networks for water, power supply, irrigation facilities, sewerage and drainage, as well as the telecom infrastructure, across an area of 50 million sqft.

Qatalum workers undergo safety training
- Some 4,000 construction workers at the world's largest primary aluminum plant are undergoing safety training. IGTC-Chubb Fire Qatar is providing the training at the Qatalum plant site while construction continues. The plant site, which will have a first phase capacity of 585,000 tons of primary aluminium, is set to be completed in 2010.

Saudi index soars
- Saudi Arabia's benchmark stock index rose the most in two-and-a-half years yesterday. The Tadawul All Share Index surged 9.5% to 4,845.11 and the S&P 500 gained more than 12%, its best weekly performance since 1974. Saudi Arabian Refinery Company, a Saudi company investing in oil refineries and fuel distribution, gained the most in three weeks and Saudi Arabian Fertiliser Company, surged to the highest level in more than three weeks.

Middle East important to GM sales
- The Middle East - although only 2% of its global sales - now serves as the 'silver lining' of the beleaguered US car maker General Motors. GM sales in the UAE have been increasing by 13% year-on-year. Sales went up from 108,000 vehicles in the first 10 months of 2007 to 122,000 in the same period this year.
