Insurance cover for Pakistanis
The Pakistan Social Centre Sharjah has started implemening an insurance cover for members. Heirs will receive USD3,000 in the event of a member's demise. The scheme was announced in April and is freely available to all paying members. The annual membership fee is USD30.
Samsung, Mashreqbank launch card
UAE consumers ae being offered a co-branded credit card by Samsung Electronics and Mashreqbank under which cardholder purchases will come with rewards and benefits as well as most of the pivileges of Mashreqbank credit cards. Early birds are offered 25,000 bonus points which can be redeemed with Samsung products.
MasterCard offer from Stanchart
Standard Charted Bank is offering its new MasterCard credit card holders in the UAE a discount of up to 15 per cent on British Airways flights to London, or to over 100 destinations across the UK, Europe, U.S. and Canada. The bank said all new primary MasterCard holders will receive a discount voucher valid for travel before March 31, 2004.
Ansari Exchange reopens scheme
UAE's Al Ansari exchange has relaunched its reward scehme which offers chances to win USD270,000 in cash. It will be open until August 9 with 30 winners getting USD9,500 each. The promotion will also offer double air miles to customers. The final draw will be held in the first week of September.
Mashreqbank summer catch offer
Mashreqbank, in association with Damas, Jashanmal, Le Meridien and Samsung, is offering the 'summer catch' promotion until August 31. For every USD135 spent on Mashreqbank credit cards at these outlets, the spender gets a chance to win major prizes from partner retail outlets.
NBF loan promotion offers two cars
National Bank of Fujairah has launched a personal loan promotion, offering their Fujairah and Dibba branch customers the opportunity to win two cars. To qualify, customers must take a personal loan of at least USD13,515. The loan schemes have attractive terms and rates with repayment starting after three months.
Al Razouki Exchange summer offer
Al Razouki Exchange in the UAE has come out with a summer promotion under which it is offering a sun glass free for every draft of over USD460 made at any of its 8 branches. It offers 2,424 Canara Bank branches in India as well as remittance facilities to Sri Lanka, Philippines, USA and the UK.
HSBC promotes guaranteed funds
HSBC is promoting two capital secured growth funds in the Middle East. The European Growth Fund offers money-back plus a minimum return of 6.5%. The UK Growth Fund promises money-back and a maximum return of 120% for U.S. dolar investors. The offer closes latest by September 21.
meBank offer on personal loans
Summer offers from meBank come with an interest rate starting from 9.95 per cent on personal loans. The offer is up to August 31. Car loan interest rates start from 4.29 per cent. The bank is also offering a 3-month instalment holiday and chances to win 16 European holidays for two as well as weekend holidays at UAE resorts.
Osool, Islamic car finance
The UAE's Osool has introduced a Murabaha car and vehicle financing product which is fully compliant with Sharia Law. Osool first purchases the car and then sells the vehicle to the intending buyer for an agreed upon profit margin. This allows Muslim customers to finance a car without recourse to interest payments.

Warning on viatical investments

These investments gamble on when somebody will die, giving them a payout in their lifetime in return for assets when they die. Mr White warns investors not to become starry-eyed and to watch out for fraudulent operators.
StanChart, Air Sahara tie-up
Standard Chartered Bank has tied up with Air Sahara to offer a five per cent discount on its Sixer freedom coupons to credit cardholders. These coupons give a 20 per cent saving on six-one way flight to or from any Air Sahara destination in India.
Visa solid gold card promotion
Visa International and the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group have announced a retail initiative to double cardholders' chances of winning gold this summer. Anyone spending more than Dhs250 and paying with Visa will have the chance to win six 24-carat solid gold Visa cards weighing 100 grams each. They will also go into the regular City of Gold promotion with great prizes.
UAE shares, investor interest
The heavy trading in Emaar Properties' shares over the past week may be the start of a revival for the UAE stock market which has lagged behind Saudi Arabia and Kuwait this year. Mutual funds such as the Emirates Equity Fund and National Bank of Abu Dhabi Growth Fund are open to nationals and foreigners, and offer a well regulated way into the market.
