QNB buys 20% into the Islamic Jazeera Company
- Qatar National Bank (QNB) has bought 20% of Islamic Jazeera Company shares. Qatar Islamic Bank said it has sold 60 million shares of the Islamic Jzeera Company to different buyers, including QNB, Qatar Insurance Company, and Kuwaiti Global Investment House. The percentages of taken by the other buyers has not been announced.

Gold surges above $910
- Gold soared to record highs above $910 an ounce on Monday as the dollar continued its decline, reported Reuters. Spot gold jumped as high as $914 an ounce and was quoted at $905 by 8pm Dubai time.

High prices drop scrap gold flow
- Record high prices have led to a sharp drop in the flow of scrap gold coming into Dubai in recent weeks as jewellery owners' hope for further price hikes, reported Gulf News. Spot gold surged to a record just shy of $900 an ounce as investors poured in, driven by uncertainties in financial markets and inflation fears amid signals that aggressive US interest rate cuts may be coming. The precious metal gained more than 30 per cent in 2007 as safe-haven buying increased due to credit market turmoil and worries about the health of the U.S. economy that sent the dollar to record lows, and record high oil prices.

UAE eases job shift for expat workers
- In an effort to ease changing of jobs by expatriate workers, the UAE has ruled that employees, who had completed three years in a company, no longer need a No Objection Certificate(NOC) from their employer if they a want to shift their job, reported The Times of India. UAE Labour Minister Ali Bin Abdullah Ka'abi said any person who has been with the same sponsor for more than three years does not need an NOC for shifting of jobs. However, no ministerial decision has yet been issued in this regard, although, the practice has been applied at the Ministry of Labour for the past four months.

Gold hits $876
- Gold hit a record high above $876 per ounce on Tuesday, prompted by investor confidence, a weak dollar, and high oil prices, reported Reuters. Spot gold surged to $876.40 an ounce, surpassing the historic high of $869.05 hit last week.

Kuwait's shares offer GCC's best value
- HSBC Holding has said Kuwaiti shares offer the best value in the GCC after the emirate's parliament recently eliminated a 55% capital gains tax on equity investments, reported Bloomberg. Kuwait's parliament also reduced the corporate tax rate levied on foreign companies' profits to 15% from 55%. Kuwait's equity benchmark rose 25% last year, underperforming those of its Gulf neighbors.
