  • Doha Securities Market witnessed a marginal progress last week. Global Qatari General Index was up by 0.41% (3.22 points) to close at 794.24 points. But the DSM Index fell by 0.53% (55.23 points), closing at 10,382.21 points.

  • While many financial markets around the world suffered a mixed week, losing many of their early gains, Qatari stocks have risen for the second consecutive week. The Global Qatari General Index closed at 780.34 points, a 39.49 points or 5.3% rise over the previous week. The Doha Securities Market (DSM) overall was up 4.8%, ending the week at 10,472.61 points.

  • The UK’s Vodafone Group has triumphed in the battle to secure Qatar’s second mobile licence and to take on the incumbent Qatar Telecom. Vodafone fought off some stiff competition, both regional and international, but sources speaking exclusively to AME Info claim the latter stages of the bidding process were far from open with the winning bid price still the subject of rabid speculation.

  • Al Khaliji, the Doha based bank, recently published financial results covering the period since its incorporation in January to the end of the third quarter on September 30. Its profit of $15.3m may seem trifling when set against the Qatar National Bank’s (QNB) comparative earnings of $519.3m but the figure is impressive for a fledgling lender that hasn’t even opened its first branch yet.
