DSS Fun Adventure Week
The Dubai Summer Surprises' Fun Adventure Surprises Week kicks off tomorrow, the sixth week of the 10-week long festival. Some of the activities in shopping malls include live scientific experiments, a performance of Peter Pan, tribal dancing, games and Red Indian adventures.
Dubai short of shoes
Dubai has a serious shortage of shoe shops, noted a correspondent from The Times this week. Remarkably international shoe chains and specialists have so far largely missed out on the affluent city with its million residents and many tourists.
BurJuman full of bargains
The BurJuman shopping mall is proving a favorite with bargain hunters this summer season. Shoppers reported that the mall's retail outlets seem to have the largest selection of discounts and are particularly strong for fashion and clothing.
ADDF to expand at KSA border
The Abu Dhabi Duty Free is to expand its outlet at the Ghuwaifat Check Post with Saudi Arabia. More than 1.6m people a year pass across this border whether entering Saudi Arabia for the Haj or Umrah or going to the UAE for shopping and tourism.
Popley to open 10 stores
Dubai based Popley Group plans to open 10 new jewellery stores by the end of 2006, and is opening its largest outlet to date in the Meena Bazaar in the heart of Bur Dubai. The 5,000 sqft outlet is part of a $19.2m expansion programme for the group.
AD Mall hosts fundraising
A month-long fundraising event for the Rashid Pediatric Centre at the Abu Dhabi Mall is experiencing a steady and growing response from the public. It involves selling scratch-and-win tickets to visitors of the mall where winning tickets are redeemed for gifts from mall vendors, and all ticket proceeds are donated to the centre. The programme also includes family activities on the weekends such as balloon art and painting.
DSS packages from Emirates
Emirates Airline is offering value-for-money packages for visitors to the Dubai Summer Surprises shopping and entertainment festival with hotel nights from just $37 per person on a sharing basis until September 2 for a minimum of three nights.
Emke to manage Al Wadha
The Emke Group is to manage the Al Wahda Mall, the new 1.5m sqft shopping mall being built in the heart of Abu Dhabi. The mall will house 250 international retail brands and a 200,000 sqft hypermarket with 2,000 car parking spaces. Emke intends to open 12 hypermarkets across the GCC and Yemen by the end of 2006.
Ice Surprises freeze Dubai
This is the Ice Surprises Week of the Dubai Summer Surprises sponsored by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority. The Arabian Ice City is a key feature and the halls of the Dubai World Trade Centre complex have been transformed into a winter wonderland with real snow.
DSS closes Colour Surprises
The Colour Surprises Week of the Dubai Summer Surprises closes today with a fashion show at the Deira City Centre shopping mall. Children have been invited to participate in the fashion show by wearing colourful costumes and their will be prizes for the best dressed.
Savola to open Dubai hypermarket
Saudi Arabian giant Savola Group has announced that group is to establish its first hypermarket at the upcoming Dubai Festival City. The $10m project is under construction and is expected to open on April 1, 2006 on an area of 150,000 sqft, reported Arab News.
Panasonic summer promotion
Al-Futtaim Group company Al-Futtaim Panatech is running its annual promotion across all participating Panasonic dealer outlets in the UAE. During the promotion Panasonic products are being offered at exceptional prices and some are accompanied by bundle offers. An opportunity also exists to win Panasonic prizes in a Scratch & Win promotion valid only in Al-Futtaim Panatech showrooms for customers who spend Dhs300 or multiples of Dhs300.
Mall of Emirates, Sept opening
The Mall of the Emirates is on schedule to open in September. With more than 350 retail outlets and 2.4m sqft of retail and leisure space this will be the largest shopping mall outside North America and have the first indoor ski slope in the Middle East.
BurJuman sale, last few days
The summer sale at the BurJuman shopping centre ends on July 21, so there are only a few days left to visit this recently extended mall. The sale has discounts of up to 70% on top fashion names and the chance to win Dhs3m whenever you spend Dhs200.
Global Village for winter
The next edition of the popular Dubai Global Village will be run from October 26 to March 3 with organisers of national pavilions being asked to fast-track construction of pavilions ready for the Eid Al Fitr festival. This will be the longest period since the Global Village began in 1996.
