The Rivoli Group has opened its first Rivoli Prestige boutique in Dubai's Mall of the Emirates, selling a range of luxury products with price tags reaching over a quarter of a million dollars. Rivoli studied high profile retail concepts around the world, and is trying to adapt them to the needs of the local premium brand-conscious market.

More than 10,000 products from 600 Chinese firms will be on display at the Chinese Commodities Fair Sharjah 2005, which begins on 26 November. Bilateral trade between the UAE and China was valued at $6.9bn between January and August 2005, up 35% on the corresponding period last year, according to statement by the organisers. Chinese companies exported $5.5bn worth of products to the UAE during the period.

The first ever awards in the region for watches, jewellery and pens were presented at an event organised by Arabian Watches and Jewellery Magazine at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain last night. Jewellery Arabia 2005, featuring over 500 international exhibitors opens today in Bahrain.
Giordano Middle East says it has achieved a 20% increase in revenues for the year to date. The retail firm will open a number of new stores in 2006, and by 2008 expects to have more than 150 stores across the GCC, Jordan and Iran. It will open its first store in India at the Chennai City Centre early next year.
Dubai Municipality is shutting down the Jet Ski rental facility at Garhoud Bridge in Dubai, reported 7Days. Officials say the decision was taken on commercial grounds and had nothing to do with the parasailing accident off Jumeirah beach on Friday, in which a ten year old boy died.

Swedish furniture giant IKEA is to open up to 10 new stores across the Middle East over the next five years, revealed Arabian Business. MD Anders Jonsson said the region is one of our key emerging markets worldwide and we intend to expand our presence further and further. Last week IKEA opened its latest outlet in the Dubai Festival City.

Landmark Group has announced the launch of its second Centrepoint concept in the UAE, covering an area of approximately 90,000 sqft, located in Bur Dubai. The Landmark Group plans to set up a Centrepoint in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi, as part of its expansion programme early 2006. Centrepoint, Bur Dubai will have Baby Shop, Shoe Mart, Splash, Lifestyle, Lee Cooper, Shelly's, Emax and Shape Express.

UAE gold sales rose by 26% to $381m in the third quarter of this year, said the World Gold Council. Gold jewellery consumption hit 20.8 tonnes in Q3, from 18.4 tonnes a year ago. The Council said UAE retail investment in bullion coins and bars increased 33% to two tonnes.

The International Institute for Research has announced the launch of Retail City, a three-day networking workshop that will take place at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 4-6 June 2006. Toshiba has opened its new regional headquarters in Jebel Ali Free Zone in a bid to expand its operations in the Middle East and Africa region. The headquarters will house a state-of-the-art product showroom displaying all Toshiba products released in the region.
