Traffic and the WWF are trying to record the changes to the agarwood trade brought by the 1970s oil boom. Information is needed on the local market, culture of use, variety and origin of products, and volume of trade.

Paris Gallery has opened its first "New Generation" store at Dubai's Ibn Battuta mall. It features new product offerings, with a number of luxury merchandisers within the store. Paris Gallery is also planning selective expansion in the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

EU Fashion manufacturers exported $862m worth of clothing to GCC markets in 2004, representing a 12.7% increase over 2003, according to European Fashion and Textile Export Council MD Reinhard Doepfer. He said these figures, coupled with the local retail boom, show the potential for new and existing international brands in the region. Organisers of Prestige 2005, a leading high fashion trade fair, say this year's exhibition attracted 25% more visitors and first-time exhibitors compared to last year.

The Madinat Zayed Market in Abu Dhabi is due to open within a week, reported Gulf News. Tenants have moved from the old Khalifa Market, which is marked for demolition. The new location will include 14 outlets for meat, 31 for fruit and vegetables, and 11 terraces for selling fish.

Jumbo Electronics has launched its largest ever store in the UAE at the Mall of the Emirates. The 27,000 sqft mega-store also claims to be the largest in the UAE consumer retail electronics sector. Dubai Shopping Festival CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Nabouda opened the store today.
