Richoux opens in Egypt
- London-headquartered Richoux café restaurant has launched its first Richoux in City Stars mall in Cairo. The restaurant is expading franchise in the Middle East and new opportunities with corporate partners are being sought in the Middle East and Asia in particular.

First dine-in Domino's for Middle East
- Domino's Pizza has announced the grand opening of its very first dine-in store in Amman and the Middle East. The new restaurant, located at the North Gate of the Jordan University, will target Jordan's university students and families.

New Cosi restaurant for Dubai
- The Al Tayer Group has opened up its third Cosi restaurant in the Middle East. Cosi is an American restaurant chain known for its crackly crust artisan flatbread baked in open-flame hearth ovens. The new location will be in Dubai on Umm Al Sheif Street, Umm Suqeim. The other locations are in Garhoud Views in Dubai and Al Wahda Mall in Abu Dhabi.

Liverpool owners reject Dubai bid
- Liverpool co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr. have rejected Dubai International Capital's $800m bid for the Premier League club, reported AP. DIC had given the Americans 24 hours to accept its offer. Hicks is committed to retaining his 50% share in the club while Gillett is reportedly willing to sell. Hicks has said he can block Gillett from selling his stake.

UAE cancels 60 food licences
- The UAE Ministry of Economy has cancelled 60 commercial agency agreements for basic foodstuffs in a bid to break monopolies in the sector and reduce food price-related inflation, reported Gulf News. Dr Hashem Al Nuaimi, director of the ministry's Consumer Protection Department, said beginning March 29, all imported foodstuffs must have Arabic labels detailing the item, and the entry of any food product that does not comply with this will be banned. Establishments that do not comply will face fines, suspension, or closure. The UAE imports about 85% of its food.

Bonhams auction breaks records
- Bonhams, the UK-headquartered international fine art auction house, broke three world records at its inaugural Middle East art auction in Dubai. The auction achieved total sales of over $13m - almost three times the expected result, with 94% of lots sold. Iranian Farhad Moshiri became the first Middle East artist to achieve an auction sale of over $1m with his Swarovski crystals and glitter on canvas 'Eshgh' (Love) - he also enters the record books as the highest achieving Iranian artist at auction. Breaking the world record for an auctioned Pakistani work of art, Gulgee's 'Polo Player' sold for $336,000 - more than four times the reserve.

Liverpool owners in 'dreamland'
- The head of the Dubai firm seeking to buy the Liverpool Football Club has said the club's owners are in 'dreamland' regarding the valuation of the team, reported Bloomberg. Al-Ansari said he is hopeful that a deal can be worked out, but noted that only one of the owners was showing any signs of coming out of dreamland.

UAE gold trade falls 70%
- As gold prices have soared, most jewellery outlets in the UAE have been hit by a a 55 to 70% sales drop during the past six months compared to the corresponding period almost a year ago, reported Khaleej Times. Since August 2007, while gold prices have rallied 50%, retail outlets in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah faced an unprecedented sales slump. However, a leading retailer pointed out that while there has been up to a 70% plunge volume sales, in value terms the drop is just 40%.
