  • Swiss luxury watchmaker Tag Heuer said it is eyeing to open a second boutique in Dubai soon, reported Gulf News. In the UAE, the brand claims 6% market share and expects to triple the business in the next four or five years.

  • Texas Chicken opens in UAE

  • Texas Chicken has recently opened its first restaurant in the UAE. The new restaurant is in Airport Road between Al Falah Street and Hazaa Bin Zayed Street in Abu Dhabi. Texas Chicken is owned by Arcapita Inc., established in 1997 as first Islamic investment bank with branches in Bahrain, Atlanta, London and Singapore.

  • Al Reyami Hotel & Home Furnishings launched

  • Dubai-based Al Reyami Group has announced the launch of Al Reyami Hotel and Home Furnishings. The new showroom in Dubai will offer a diversified collection of furniture - such as SIT (Italy), DD(Spain), STILUS(Spain), and MEBEPLAST(Poland) - furnishings, fabrics and accessories from reputed manufacturers across Europe.

  • GCC food import hits $10bn

  • The Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) dependecne on food imports has hit $10bn, reported Gulf News. Amid global crop shortages, the prices of many basic goods including rice, wheat, dairy and cooking oil have been rising dramatically throughout the Middle East. Rising oil prices, which caused increased freight costs were also noted as additional factor.

  • Burger King to install new sales system

  • US technology company Radiant Systems has won a contract to supply 90 Burger King outlets in the Middle East with its Aloha QuickService Point of Sale system. The system will be installed by Saudi Arabian channel partner Professional Solutions. No completion date or value was given for the deal.

  • Bloomingdale's may open at Dubai Mall

  • Bloomingdale's may soon join the list of high-end retail and designer brands headed to the Middle East, reported Women's Wear Daily. Sources say the retailer's first stop could be Dubai Mall, which is currently under construction and is planned to be the largest mall in the world when it opens in late 2008 or early 2009.

  • Gold sales slump

  • Gold sales in February were down 15% from a year-ago due to record high prices for the precious metal, reported Reuters. Gold prices have risen more than 23% this year, touching $1,030 an ounce at its peak. Tawhid Abdullah, managing director of the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group, said diamond jewellery sales are compensating for the drop in gold jewellery.

  • Shababco plans 30 Gold's Gyms in KSA

  • Saudi-based Shababco Enterprises has announced plans to open 30 'Gold's Gym' branches across the Middle East at a cost of $300m, reported Arab News. The Gold's Gym fitness clubs were established in California in 1965 and won the 'Best Gym in the World Award' for 2006.
