Hicks ends Liverpool talks with DIC
- Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has decided to end talks with Dubai International Capital over a takeover of the Premier League football club, reported AP. Hicks said talks broke down with DIC over a dispute about who should be running the club. He plans to search for another investor to buy out co-owner George Gillett's stake.

Fast food prices in UAE up 14%
- Fast food chains in the UAE have raised their prices as much as 30% in the past few months, reported Gulf News. Overall, there has been an average increase of 14% in the last two months, with KFC, Pizza Hut and Hardees raising prices 10% in the last month, and Burger King boosting its prices between 15% to 30%.

Egypt blames water for rice rise
- Egypt has hiked the export duty on rice by 50% to 300 Egyptian pounds ($54.84) a tonne, claiming that by selling the staple internationally it also indirectly exports water. The country produces about four million tonnes of rice a year, most of which is consumed in Egypt.

Wal-Mart targets Arabs
- Wal-Mart has opened a 200,000 square foot store in Detroit, USA aimed largely at the city’s Arab American and Muslim populations. It is taking on Arab speaking staff and includes lines popular amongst Middle Easterners. It also has a halal meat section.

Richoux opens in Egypt
- London-headquartered Richoux café restaurant has launched its first Richoux in City Stars mall in Cairo. The restaurant is expading franchise in the Middle East and new opportunities with corporate partners are being sought in the Middle East and Asia in particular.

First dine-in Domino's for Middle East
- Domino's Pizza has announced the grand opening of its very first dine-in store in Amman and the Middle East. The new restaurant, located at the North Gate of the Jordan University, will target Jordan's university students and families.

New Cosi restaurant for Dubai
- The Al Tayer Group has opened up its third Cosi restaurant in the Middle East. Cosi is an American restaurant chain known for its crackly crust artisan flatbread baked in open-flame hearth ovens. The new location will be in Dubai on Umm Al Sheif Street, Umm Suqeim. The other locations are in Garhoud Views in Dubai and Al Wahda Mall in Abu Dhabi.

Liverpool owners reject Dubai bid
- Liverpool co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr. have rejected Dubai International Capital's $800m bid for the Premier League club, reported AP. DIC had given the Americans 24 hours to accept its offer. Hicks is committed to retaining his 50% share in the club while Gillett is reportedly willing to sell. Hicks has said he can block Gillett from selling his stake.
