Dubai can sustain its mall boom
- Ashish Panjabi, CEO of Jacky's Electronics, said he believes the continued growth of Dubai's population and its tourists will be 'more than sufficient' to keep up with the surge in shopping centre supply, reported Gulf News. Dubai will soon see an explosion in shopping centre supply with the completion of at least nine complexes: Dubai Mall, Oasis Mall, Mirdiff City, Mall of Arabia, as well as five malls recently announced by Nakheel. The emirate currently has 1.3 million square metres gross leasable area already finished.

Egypt wheat stocks safe
- Egypt's Social Solidarity Minister has announced that the country has enough wheat reserves to last until mid-August. The country has set reserves of 2.3m tons and has contracted for an unspecified further amount. A further 3.5m tons is expected to be produced this season.

Masafi Juices sales up
- Masafi Juice sales are up 15% in Q1 on the same period in 2007, with the company selling 2m bottles in three months. 45% of the products were exported and sold outside of the UAE.

Lost Paradise awards media contract
- Bahrain's Lost Paradise of Dilmun water park has appointed Memac Ogilvy Bahrain to represent its PR interests across the GCC. The move is part of the leisure destination's aim to increase its audience base across the region.

Samsonite in GCC expansion
- Samsonite Group announced recently that it is expanding further across the UAE and the GCC in general. Samsonite ME has opened 79 outlets in 2007 in the GCC, now moving up to over 140 by end 2008. Meanwhile, in the UAE, it has launched 12 doors in 2007 and expects to more than double by end 2008, with 25 doors located at major shopping malls in Dubai, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi.

Arab Beverage Association appoints chairman
- The Arab Beverage Association, an alliance of high-level executives from the beverage industry in the Arab World, has appointed Monther Al Harthi, Chief Executive Office of Al Rabie Saudi Foods Co. Ltd., to be the chairman of ABA.The ABA serves as a platform for advanced innovation, packaging, flavouring, retail strategies, trends, new products and technology, market and consumer studies.

DWC and Aswaaq sign MOU
- Dubai World Central and Aswaaq, a public joint-stock company which is under formation, have signed an agreement to explore community centre development opportunities at DWC. Aswaaq centres will house supermarkets complemented by shops and services in the heart of each neighbourhood across the development.

SouqExtra plans four outlets this year
- The first four outlets of SouqExtra, the new-concept neighbourhood supercentres, are set to open in Dubai before year-end, a company statement said. The outlets, currently under construction, are located at Ewan Residences, Al Quoz, Al Barsha and Muhaisnah. This is part of SouqExtra's plan to open a total of 10 outlets in the UAE by 2009, in addition to an unnamed number of outlets planned at Dubai World Central Residential City.
