Video goes viral
- Video on the net is nothing new. But with the arrival of YouTube and other video sharing sites, it's suddenly become a phenomenon. Video is finally easy to upload, easy to find, easy to share. - When a colleague emailed a link to an iPod lavatory paper dispenser, it first looked like a joke. Throughout its history Apple has inspired many spoof concept products, from igrills to igirlfriends. So a paper-dispenser-come-iPod-dock seemed yet another fake. But no, it's real.

The death of DVDs
- The news that UK shops will soon stop selling VHS tapes of films is as ironic as it is significant. For the DVD format that has ousted poor old tape is itself already heading towards obsoletion. Tomorrow's battle is not VHS vs Betamax, or tape vs disk, but HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray.

Arab internet woes
- Why, with such a young population, is the Arab world still lagging behind when it comes to the digital revolution? Less than four per cent of people in the Arab world are internet users, according to ITU data. The penetration rate is just 3.7% - in a region with an 8.59% penetration in landline subscribers, and 14.51% in mobile subscribers.

Plug and play around
- In an episode of Seinfeld, the character George Constanza calls in a carpenter to modify his office desk into a bed, with space for an alarm clock, so he can nest in comfort. Cosy, but not particularly imaginative. But these days the wonder of USB has arrived.
