Sendo mobile phone has been introduced in the UAE by distributor Jumbo Electronics. The M550 gives up to 400 hours of standby and up to 300 minutes of talk time. The small and light clamshell design phone offers polyphonic ring tones, network dependent GPRS, colour EMS and multiplayer games.

The latest AMD Athlon processor has been launched in the region by distributor Sky Electronics. It is the first Windows compatible 64-bit processor and features advanced power management. It is designed for high-performance computing and wireless connectivity and will retail at about USD500.
Bahrain's Central Informatics Organisation will build its e-government infrastructure based on open standard Linux programme. CIO has signed an agreement to source supplies from IBM and GBM. The prject will integrate Bahrain's back-end systems like national database and central population registration and help introduce a smart card system for citizens.
American Express and Comtrust have signed up to provide e-payments services in the Mideast. Amex cardholders can now make online purchases on Comtrust merchant and government department network without any liability should they be exposed to online fraud.

Al Jazeera News Channel and Al Majaz Telecom and Q-tel have launched Al Jazeera Mobile News Service that provides people in Qatar with latest breaking and political news by SMS. Al Jazeera plans to launch this service in other countries in the region, North Africa and later worldwide.
Mideast mobile phone market is growing annually by 20-25 per cent, with demand for MMS-enabled phones on the rise in the UAE, which alone has 2.3m mobile users, Panasonic said. The Japanese firm will showcase its new ultra-sleek X70 mobile phone, with instant picture sending ability, at Gitex.

Intel has launched an enhanced Xeon for dual processor servers and workstations. It features top performance and fastest clock speed in the Intel Xeon processor family dual processor line. At 3.20GHz, it has a 1MB cache and a 533MHz system bus and is designed for use in general purpose servers for application such as web hosting.
The 23rd edition of Gitex will have 774 exhibitors, up 26 per cent, representing 1,703 companies. There are 19 national pavilions, an increase of 19 per cent while there is 26 per cent growth in the number of countries represented.
