The Fujairah Islamic Call and Guidance Centre has called on local clergy to take advantage of the abundant computer software and the Internet that deal with Islam, reported Gulf News. They noted that there are programs and websites that help people learn more about the Holy Quran.

Hoax email warning for teenager

A teenager who sent threatening emails during the Dubai 2003 IMF and World Bank meetings in September was reprimanded yesterday in the Dubai Juvenile's Court, reported Gulf News. Police tracked down the 16-year old at home in Sharjah through his computer's IP address.

Oracle, PeopleSoft bid still on

Oracle has reaffirmed its committment to buying rival PeopleSoft for USD7.3bn, despite the withdrawal of half the shares tendered in October. The offer has been extended from December 31 to February 13. But antitrust regulators also have to make a ruling which is not expected until early next year.

HP still No1 in Mideast

Hewlett-Packard has retained its No1 position for desktop and laptop computers in the Middle East in Q3, according to IDC figures. HP sales were up 16 per cent year-on-year, and market share 23 per cent compared with nine per cent for the runner-up. Saudi Arabia saw HP with a 34 per cent share of desktop and mobile PCs.
