Dubai based electronic marketplace Tejari.com has signed up 2,000 trading partners over the past three years, CEO Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi told a meeting of the French business group last week. She said that having set a regional e-business standard, there was a great deal of momentum behind Tejari.

Iraq's fixed line telephone system is likely to be upgraded in a USD200m contract awarded to a network integrator which will in turn issue task orders, officials told Reuters. Another USD90m contract is likely to be awarded to tie together emergency services radio.
Qtel has announced the opening of a multimillion dollar Internet Data Centre in Doha in partnership with NavLink of France. The move is to boost Qtel's strategic intention to become a centre for Internet hosting and value added services.

Etisalat has installed the Middle East's first Root Name Server mirror site to speed up access to websites. Previously queries took an average 214 mille-seconds per round trip and were answered in New York, USA; now the queries will take an average 3ms and will be answered locally in UAE.

Etisalat is considering a ban on unsolicited SMS messages, including those for charity, according to Gulf News. The paper cited a barrage of complaints from consumers getting up to 10 unwanted messages a day. An Etisalat spokesman said it was policy to protect the privacy of customers.
