The new technology also launched recently in Sharjah, Ajman and Al Ain has helped increase the number of E-Vision subscribers in these cities.

Oracle has announced that one of Qatar's most diverse conglomerates, Faisal Bin Qassim Al-Thani and Sons Holding Company has deployed the Oracle Collaboration Suite. The Doha-based group opted for the Suite for its capability to give FBQHC's employees a single in-box for all email, files, and fax messages, as well as the flexibility to access messages from Outlook, Web browsers, and mobile phones.
The Dubai based virtual university E-TQM plans to admit up to 50,000 online students next year. Director Dr Mansoor Al Awar made the announcement at the launch of the college's own publishing house last week. The college presently has 15,000 group learners mainly from the UAE and Kuwait.

Singapore Airlines has selected Connexion by Boeing as its provider of choice for high-speed Internet-based communications on board. The letter of intent agreement calls for the Net system to be installed on 40 of SIA's long-haul jetliners. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Dell, the number one computer retailer in the US, is aiming to become the top computer company in the Middle East. Omantel has awarded a contract to upgrade its SMS system to LogicaCMG that will help to meet a sharp rise in SMS traffic. The two companies have been working together for three years, and SMS is seen as a strong future revenue source for Omantel. SMS is booming in the Middle East.
The E-Biz Challenge, a dot-com contest run by Zayed University and sponsored by AME Info, has received 44 entries so far. Organisers said they expected more applications before the December 17 deadline. The contest is designed to encourage students to participate in e-innovation.

The US authorities in Iraq have suspended the award of mobile phone contracts amid allegations that the bidding process was fixed, reported The Financial Times. CPA lawyers have recommended a delay to allow time to investigate allegations of cronyism by the Iraqi authorities. The request is understood to focus on the role of Nadhmi Auchi, the Iraqi born billionaire involved in the sucessful Orascom consortium.
Etisalat has reduced its charges for mobile phones. GSM and pre-paid call rates are down from 30 to 24 fils per minute, while off peak calls are down from 21 to 18 fils per minute. The GSM quarterly rental charge is cut from Dhs90 to Dhs60. Local SMS is down from 30 to 18 fils, while international SMS fall from 90 to 60 fils per minute.

Abu Dhabi authorities recently raided three companies for using pirated software. During the raid, five staff members were arrested and nine PCs were seized. The latest raid is part of the ongoing anti-piracy campaign launched by the UAE authorities in association with the Business Software Alliance.

Owners of GSM mobile phones in the Arab World get the best deal in Kuwait, according to the Arab Advisors Group, with the UAE coming next for post-paid calls. The new report noted that Arab users in the poorest countries such as Morocco and Tunisia pay the highest rates.
UAE based electronic marketplace Tejari has formed a partnership with Al-Gabban Group to enter the Iraqi market and will be setting up an office in Baghdad. Chairman Sultan bin Sulayem described the move as strategic. He said the Ghabban Group was the best positioned franchise partner to establish logistics and the brand name.
