Dubai Police has selected the Oracle technology platform to power its e-services portal, which delivers services to Dubai's more than 900,000 residents. Online services provided through the Oracle-based portal include reporting of stolen cars and other crimes, traffic-related services such as renewal of vehicle registration and driver's licenses, payment of fines, registering of complaints and other public service initiatives, and real-time news on traffic and safety initiatives.

Etisalat subsidiary e-marine has won a turnkey contract to install a new submarine fibre optic telecommunications link between Qatar and the UAE. The nine-month contract involves more than 200km of cabling under the sea.
Sales of wireless local area network equipment have soared by 130 per cent in the past year, according to retailer Senora Trading. Managing director Tony Chou forecasts a 200 per cent growth in wireless connectivity solutions in the Middle East over the next three years.

Oracle has announced that Dubai Government has successfully completed the implementation of the Oracle E-Business Suite for Dubai Civil Aviation, Dubai Economic Department and The Ruler's Court. Samsung has launched the first MMS mobile phone to be equipped with a super-VGA digital camera, the SGH-E700. It will be available in the UAE from next week but camera phones are banned in Saudi Arabia. The handset weighs just 85g and also has GPRS, WAP, internal antenna and dual colour LCD screens.

Emirates Data Clearing House, a subsidiary of Etisalat, has announced the signing of new agreements with GSM operators China Mobile, Celtel Uganda, Celtel Sierra Leone, SNPT Comoros and Vodafone Albania. Under these agreements, EDCH will provide the five operators with services ranging from data clearing and financial clearing to TAP conversion services. These agreements bring the number of EDCH clients to 40 GSM operators.
