HP to sell Virus Throttler

Hewlett-Packard engineers are set to strike against computer viruses and worms with the introduction of new Virus Throttler software next year. HP will roll-out the new product to corporate customers first for HP servers and may later add a version for home computer users.

UAE cuts call charges

UAE, online visa renewals

The e-Expat system goes live today in the UAE, opening the way to complete all visa formalities online, including residence visa applications, work permits, as well as labour and health cards. The Ministry of Finance said this was a crucial step toward a national system of e-government.

GCC e-commerce USD1bn by 2008

B2C e-commerce is set to boom in the GCC, crossing the USD1bn by the year 2008, with Saudi Arabia and the UAE leading the table. More than one-third will be online bookings for airlines and hotels, followed by books, clothing, gifts, flowers, electronic products including music CDs and DVDs, computer software and hardware, according to a report by Dubai-based Madar Research Group.

UAE Net service back online

UAE Internet services have been fully restored following a technical problem on Tuesday last week which slowed connections. Thousands of people experienced snail-paced connections which were finally eliminated by Friday. Internet cafes reported a 70 per cent slowdown in connection speeds.
