Microsoft has struck a deal to co-market IT at the USD1.3bn Bahrain Financial Harbour development. Officials said we will work together to promote Bahrain as a leading centre for IT and for companies developing applications for the financial sector.
The UAE Ministry of Finance and Economy is to launch an e-direct service that allows companies and individuals to have e-dirham cards linked directly to their bank accounts. The e-direct service will be operated by at least 10 national banks in the UAE, officials told Gulf News.

Kuwait's Wataniya Telecom has deployed Oracle Customer Relationship Management to enhance the quality of service for over 820,000 customers in Kuwait. Full roll out and deployment is now in progress, with call-centre agents already live on the system today, following a soft launch in September.
Etisalat has won the licence for a second fixed line network in Sudan, after its USD59.5m Kanartel bid was selected by the regulatory authority. Officials said Sudan was a large country with low telephone penetration rates and did not rule out a role in GSM phones as well.

Oracle is now close to winning its USD8.8bn hostile bid for PeopleSoft after winning the support of shareholders, reported Bloomberg. CEO Larry Ellison called on directors to strike a deal within the next two days. More than 60 per cent of shareholders backed the deal.
Veritas Software Corporation Middle East will host seminars in the UAE next week to discuss how the small and medium-sized business can manage data growth more cost-effectively and reliably. The seminars, scheduled in Abu Dhabi on November 23 and Dubai on November 24 also highlight protection against information downtime, and recovery from unexpected data loss.

Saudi Telecom has not issued its usual seasonal greeting data this Eid holiday, apparently not wanting to give anything away to new rival Ettihad Etisalat which has won the Kingdom's second GSM licence. Last year STC announced that 55m greetings were sent.
