Fujitsu Siemens Computers says all its ScenicView Business Line display models meet the strict requirements of the EU's directive on the restriction of certain hazardous substances, such as lead, mercury and cadmium, in electronic equipment as of 1 July 2006. The new displays offer both analog VGA and digital DVI interfaces, with cabling, connector cover, power supply unit and speakers all built into the monitor housing.
Kuwait-based MTC will soon introduce mobile video calling, allowing customers to see each other while carrying on a conversation. There is no need to change SIM cards or change mobile settings, and most devices with dual cameras and video calling facilities support the feature.
Etisalat's eCompany has launched its broadband in-flight WiFi Internet access service in partnership with Connexion by Boeing. The service offers wireless Internet on WiFi enabled laptops or mobile phones onboard at broadband speeds comparable to that at homes and offices. Lufthansa is one airline that has been equipped with the service.

DAG System will use its disposable chip timing system for the first time in the Middle East at the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2006. The system automatically records times by linking chips in runners' bibs to antennas at the start and finish lines, which are connected to computers to record data for each athlete.

Apple has unveiled its Power Mac G5 desktop line, featuring dual 2.5ghz dual-core PowerPC G5 processors. Higher performance graphics options include NVIDIA's Quadro FX 4500, bringing the industry standard for workstation graphics to the Mac. Every model includes FireWire 800, USB 2.0, and built-in support for AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0.
Batelco will cut tariffs on broadband business packages by up to 43% and usage rates by 50%, starting 1 January 2006. It will also introduce a new broadband package designed for single-user organisations, at a cost of a $106.16 per month.
Nokia has appointed National Technology Group as its integration partner for Saudi Arabia. NTG will provide installation, consultancy and after sales support for companies deploying the Nokia Business Centre, its push email solution. Organisations can connect employees over GPRS or WLAN to their corporate email accounts through the centre.

Qatar Telecom has blocked video and audio chatting via popular Internet-based services such as MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and Google Talk, reported The Peninsula. Some nationals and expats say they had subscribed to Qtel's high-speed ADSL Internet access specifically to use the chat programs.
Panasonic has launched its Toughbook CF-W4 notebook in the Middle East. Weighing in at 1.29kg the high-quality magnesium casing has less weight and increased robustness which is designed to resist up to 100kg of pressure. The notebook is designed to protect the 12.1-inch screen, the most common weak point for mobile computers.
Etislat's ICT arm, eCompany, has introduced an e-mail reader service for its 600,000 EIM mail subscribers and 200,000 corporate email customers. Users can listen to emails being read out by the system, send emails as voice attachments and access all features of their email service through voice commands over a mobile phone.

Batelco says it will invest more than $132.6m in broadband infrastructure in 2006, which will include building new data centres and a landing station for expanded web access, and investment in Falcon cable systems and additional base stations for improved mobile coverage.
