DSO deal with French co.
Dubai Silicon Oasis has signed a deal with France-based CMP that will see the company fabricate and package chip designs out of the technology park for research laboratories and educational facilities. CMP focuses on brokering integrated circuits and micro electro-mechanical systems.
Etisalat goes NGN with Huawei
Etisalat has entered into an agreement with China-based Huawei Technologies under which it will set up a next generation network offering advanced mobile phone services, including interconnected voice data and video. CE Mohammad Hassan Omran says NGN will modernise communication services and lead to lower costs.
Cranes Software comes to Dubai
Cranes Software Middle East, a joint venture between Cranes Software International and The Kanoo Group, has started operations with the opening of an office in Dubai. Cranes Software, a scientific and engineering products and solutions vendor, brings to the JV its flagship products which include the Systat and Sigma Plot family and the NISA Finite Element Analysis Suite.
LG banks on monster TVs
LG Electronics says it will show the world's largest PDP and LCD TVs, new notebook PCs, and a multimedia broadcast receiving mobile phone at Gitex 2005. The 71-inch PDP TV has an aspect ratio of 16:9 and is embedded with a picture enhancing XD Engine. LG aims to be the world market leader with a 30% market share in PDP modules by the end of 2005, and the leading manufacturer of PDP TV sets with a 20% share by 2006.
MDS, leading IT provider
MDS says it was the UAE's best performed IT service provider in 2004 according to research by IDC, taking an 11.8% share of the $308.5m market for IT support, training and education, system integration, outsourcing and software installation. IDC also said the whole market grew by 12.7% during 2004.
IBM introduces SOA to region
IBM has introduced software that deploys service oriented architecture to help in business process management. IBM intends to expand its SOA business partner initiative across the region and will host two major customer events in Dubai leading up to Gitex that will focus on the benefits of the SOA technology model.
Call the world at Gitex
Fusion says it will be offering Gitex visitors free Efonica VoIP telephone calls to any telephone number in the world. The company will also run trials of Efonica's new features and functionalities including VoIP Callgate and SMS Callgate.
Notebooks in demand at Gitex
Notebooks are expected to outsell desktop PCs at Gitex Shopper 2005, according to organisers Dubai World Trade Centre. A report by IDC says shipments of notebooks to the MEA region increased by 108% and desktops by 23.5%, in Q2 2005. Notebooks make up close to 50% of total PC shipments into Saudi and already outsell desktops in the UAE.
Cognos launches BI solution
Cognos Incorporated says its new performance management solution, Cognos 8 business intelligence solution, will be launched in Dubai during Gitex 2005. This is the industry's first web-services based solution that provides the complete range of BI functionalities in a single product on a proven, single architecture.
Canon launches 40 products
Canon Middle East has launched over 40 new consumer products in the run-up to Gitex, including seven digital still cameras, two digital SLRs and image stabilizer lenses, three digital video cameras, 12 designer PIXMA photo printers, three SELPHY compact photo printers and three multimedia projectors.
Alcatel, Qatar Telecom 3G
Alcatel has been selected by Qatar Telecom to carry out a part of its 3G/UMTS radio network deployment in Qatar. This 3G deployment will allow Qtel to be fully operational for the provision of 3G services to the athletes coming from 45 participating countries during the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006.
Investcom wins Afghan license
Investcom, the international mobile telecoms company that is to list on the Dubai International Financial Exchange, today announced that it has been awarded one of two new licenses to operate GSM services in Afghanistan. The Investcom Consortium, consisting of 60% Investcom Holding and 40% Alokozay Group from the UAE won the license after a five way bidding process.
CA Summit highlights ITIL
Computer Associates' Business Executive Summit at the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai was attended by 16 of the largest enterprise organisations from the Arab world and Pakistan. The aim was to raise awareness for the significant business advantages that IT Infrastructure Library best practice processes can offer to enterprises looking to align their IT infrastructures to improve business efficiency and service delivery.
