Thuraya will install a satellite network for the UAE Air Force, after a deal was penned at the Dubai air show yesterday. The agreement provides for satellite-based voice, data, and GPRS communications for the Air Force's military fleet across the whole area of Thuraya's satellite coverage.

MultiSell Technology and Xische Digital have created a new company, MX2, for creating and delivering interactive, digital content. MX2 will offer high end, customised presentation solutions such as a floating screen that can be interacted with by hand gestures. MX2 will have offices in the US, Europe and the Middle East.
Etisalat has introduced an e-mail reader service which can be accessed by mobile phone. The service allows users to access e-mail through voice commands, reads out e-mails, and sends e-mails as voice attachments. Both prepaid and postpaid mobile users can sign up to the service.

Doha Bank has introduced hi-tech anti-money laundering systems to bring it in line with the best practices being adopted by the international financial industry, reported The Peninsula. The bank engaged regional software integrator Imtac to deploy Infrasoft's OMNIEnterprise: anti-money laundering solution.
LG Electronics has released a range of large screen LCD monitors, including a 55-inch monitor with XGA screen and a 42-inch with inbuilt PC. Prices for LCDs have fallen substantially due to oversupply, with demand set to outstrip that for CRT monitors by 2008, according to IDC. LG says it aims to take 54% of the Mideast market share by selling 586,000 units in 2005.
Etisalat plans to offer service that will allow customers to have high speed in flight wireless access, reported Gulf News. The service will be jointly introduced with Connexion by Boeing, which already has the in-flight portals through which the service is activated.

Arabic web hosting community Jeeran has introduced a fully Arabised blog service. Jeeran says the potential for millions of Arabs to join the blogging revolution has been hampered by the lack of Arabic solutions. Since the soft launch in early November, 2,000 users have signed up for Jeeran blogs.

MTC-Vodafone Kuwait has introduced its AlJazeera Mobile Services via GSM mobile phones. The system allows users to access news and information reports in a tie-up with AlJazeera, Al Majaz Telecom Technology and Aiwa Gulf.
Qatar Telecom is introducing a service to allow mobile users to send SMS text messages to landline telephones. Qtel will spend $260m between 2006 and 2008 to develop its infrastructure. The telco still has no plans to charge for local telephone calls, which have been free for several years, and is looking at reducing other communication charges.
E-commerce represents around 1.5% of total production in the Gulf and Arab countries compared to 5-10% in the rest of the world, Economy Minister Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi told a conference in Abu Dhabi. She said that this left a path for growth in the UAE.

The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce & Industry has introduced its new digital trading platform, ezTrade.bh. Developed by Bahrain TradaNet WLL, the service is designed to be the country's first B2B e-commerce services platform for local businesses.
Ericsson is introducing mobile broadband in the Middle East, which will allow regional Internet providers the ability to offer broadband for mobile devices, reported Gulf News. Mobile broadband runs on 3G networks that offer performance similar to ADSL.
Nokia held a multimedia event for regional journalists and trade to introduce the latest three models in its N-Series mobile range. They include the N92 which features mobile television connectivity, the N71 with FM radio, and the N80, claimed to be the world's first universal plug and play mobile.
