Etisalat has said an Internet failure in large areas of Dubai on Sunday was due to technical faults, reported 7Days. But website administrators said it lasted more like 15 hours. Etisalat did not offer an apology or further explanation.

Jordanian mobile phone operator MobileCom has picked Ericsson's push email solution which will offer wireless access to emails while on the move. The three-year contract links mobile phones and other wireless devices directly with webmail applications through GPRS/Edge technology.
A virus named after Osama bin Laden is causing problems for computer users. RAS Infotech of Dubai Internet City told Gulf News anyone receiving this email should trash it. This is a malicious Trojan virus and presents itself in a form likely to attract the user to open it.

Etisalat subsidiary E-Vision is increasing the cost of cable TV services from November 1 by Dhs3 for its basic package and Dhs10 for e-Perla packages. E-Vision has 200,000 subscribers in the UAE and said the price rise was to maintain and improve the quality of service. The UAE's Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company plans to launch its third satellite into orbit in 2007. Officials told Gulf News that the project is on plan for delivery from Boeing Satellite Systems in June 2006 or a few months earlier. Thuraya 3 is a back-up for Thuraya 2.
