NewSat, an Australian satellite communications provider, says it has opened an international sales office in Dubai Internet City. NewSat has been operating in the region since 2004. The company has recently introduced a range of new products, including WiFi with LinoWave, and a VoIP service through MyNetFone.

Qtel says it has acquired a 38.2% stake in NavLink, a provider of managed data services an affiliate of AT&T, Gulf News reported. The telco says the partnership with NavLink and AT&T will provide its corporate customers with advanced business solutions. AT&T recently set up a data centre in Doha.
Etisalat has introduced an internet package for BlackBerry users. It gives access to up to 10 personal and corporate email accounts from a single device. The BlackBerry Internet Service also supports email attachment formats.

HP Middle East will supply its products and services to Petroleum Development Oman under a five-year deal, the company said. They will be delivered through HP's Personal Systems Group, Technology Solutions Group and Imaging and Printing Group, focusing on security, mobility and disaster recovery.
Etisalat has signed an agreement with France Telecom's Orange Business Services, through which it will offer IP VPN services. OBS represents the business communications solutions and services provided by France Telecom. The managed services are delivered through a data-carrying service called multi-protocol label switching.

Tejari says it has signed an agreement with Bahrain-based Business Communications Networks to bring its operations to Bahrain and Qatar. Through BCN, businesses and government departments in both countries will be able to get access to Tejari's online market place. Tejari now has operations in every GCC country and the Levant.
Etisalat's web and mobile portal, Weyak, says it has signed a content contract with the UK-based mobile technology provider Filmnight. Under the agreement Weyak users get access to Filmnight's movies, music and games.

The UAE's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has reiterated its ban of VoIP services within the UAE, 7Days reported. The TRA says the service is illegal and remains blocked. Local media had reported that the ban was set to be lifted.

UAE telecoms firm Du will not launch its mobile operations fully until January 2007, according to 7Days. There could be a partial service operational before the end of the year. The UAE's second operator had aimed to have services running by the ends of the year.

Singapore Telecommunications and Etisalat have signed an agreement to offer Internet protocol virtual private network services to customers. SingTel can now offer business customers network connectivity and IP services in the Middle East via Etisalat's dedicated network and IP-VPN solutions. Etisalat will also enjoy a broadened reach within Asia Pacific via SingTel's ConnectPlus IP-VPN services and network coverage.

Dubai World has launched a DubaiTrade.ae portal which has been designed to bring several of the holding company's business units together under one integrated website. The company has spent over $20m during the past year, according to a report in Gulf News, upgrading its IT infrastructure. The new portal stems from a partnership with Oracle and utilises its latest database products.

Roshan, Afghanistan's mobile phone operator, has become the first Afghan telco firm to introduce pre-paid roaming with the UAE. Roshan's customers can now go anywhere in the UAE and use their Roshan SIMs to make and receive calls. Roshan was the first operator in Afghanistan to introduce international roaming and it now has agreements with more than 160 networks in over 60 countries.
